Good swing but not a power hitter

Reds would be ahead if Benson had any clue in the meat of the bottom of the order!

I get that the strikeouts are awful, but he was perfectly fine in April and May. Slumps happen, and there's really nobody down in AAA right now.
If you swing and miss nothing good is going to happen. It’s not about his OPS+. It’s that Benson cannot make contact.

They are getting him out on fastballs thrown right by him. His bat is too slow. Maybe he needs a lighter bat.

Being above average for two months and being bad this month is the definition of a slump.

So actual results (OPS+) don't matter? OK.

I'm not arguing he doesn't suck right now, he's clearly massively slumping, but the idea that he wasn't producing in April and May is just wrong.

In March/Aoril Benson struck out 39.5%

In May Benson struck out 36.3%

In June he’s struck out 44.7%

If you strike out that much eventually your numbers will collapse. It just doesn’t allow enough contact to succeed.

Steer is trying the great approach on those pitches but a reminder that baseball is hard….but his swings were right

Benson either needs to go back to the minors or DFA'd. He is quite obviously no help at all now.

I'd buy the "it's just a big slump" defense if I saw any improvement. Or that he has suffered particularly bad luck. But I haven't seen anything like that.

Honestly, it’s not just the stats. Anyone with working eyeballs can see benson is cooked. This isn’t a slump, league adjusted and he’s toast.
What would you say.....ya do here?

    29.9% k-rate. And that’s with a 92.2 exit velo and 50% hart hit rate. Benson’s EV is 4mph less.
