I don’t mind Jake turning into Greg Gross or late career Del Unser. He just has to hit over 300 - 320 to make it worth it.

Those are good comps for Fraley. I would be very happy with him like either of those two. In most cases I will take the guy who strikes out less than the the one who strikes out nearly 50% of the time. Good things will happen if you make consistent contact.

You need hitters like that now more than ever. I know like relievers PH/Bench guys like that can be volatile. Like Lenny Harris and his one year he’s Manny Mota and next year he’s barely hitting 200 between 1994-97. Hal Morris in 1999 is another example.

Right now they don’t have any power off the bench. They don’t have any good contact hitters either. I know the pitching is tougher. So is the art of going the other way and protecting with 2 strikes.

Career wRC+ vs RH as the general metric and Fraley is the same guy as Benson. Neither should ever face LH pitching. I'd prefer to get rid of both and have an everyday, above average player in RF but that is unlikely at this point.

The key is Friedl. If he can't stay healthy, we need a CF option that can take over and keep us from asking either platoon guy to play every day.

    They just can't do it.

Fraley’s a good player and it’s a shame to sell him when he’s having an off year. Hard to believe his power won’t return to some extent.

But Reds have to move on, the outfield needs significant bats, so they probably will cut bait.

Fraley deserves kudos for last year when he played hurt down the stretch. He’s improved defensively, done a lot of good things. But Reds need more from corner OF if they ever want to be a high level team.

The advanced numbers all favor Fraley. Neither has been good and those numbers are basically the same, but I'd guess that Benson has taken more heat because he's been on a much steeper decline and people bought into his inflated stats of last year, so there's more disappointment around him than Fraley.
Yes they are basically even. But I still think Benson gets the edge for me due to XBH. Fraley has turned into a .280 singles hitter. Wouldn't mind as much but in today's game if you are singles only you better hit .330 plus.

Out in front of pitches, and dropping his shoulder?
