Oh for sure - given those two choices.

Pasta salad is the winner for me tho. I like to feel a little oil clogging up the ol’ arteries. Makes me feel alive…. For now…

Funny you say that. A local fish market by me makes all these salads the best imo. Their cole slaw after my grandmother's is the best. Not too sweet like some places.

It was the end of the day when I went Tuesday and they were sold out of Cole slaw made that morning, so the guy there talked me into buying macaroni salad instead.

    Hence this thread.

I make my potato salad with red potatoes. I also boil the spuds the day before and cut them up and dress them with Italian salad dressing and let them sit overnight in the fridge.

And for cole slaw vs macaroni salad, it depends on who does the grocery shopping. I favor the former while my wife favors the latter.

My pork butt went on the smoker at 5:30 am this morning. I think I’ll need a nap later.

My wife makes Potato Salad, old school, a nice touch of mustard, boiled eggs, claussen pickles. Macaroni Salad is non starter in this house, I do the slaw... must have a vinegar bite to it

I make my pasta salad with whatever is in the fridge. Peppers, carrots, tomatoes, celery, cheese (carving off mold) and whatever else I look at and think hmmm that might work.

Sometimes I make cole slaw with blue cheese dressing. Pretty rich but good as a change of pace.

And macaroni salad is fine. Just not my first choice.

I’m a meat and potatoes guy, so I’d definitely choose potato salad and preferably the white, because I’m not a big mustard fan. I love Cole slaw too, but with a slight bit of creamy horseradish sauce mixed in. Yes I’m weird

    Re: The Real Debate

After two bites of macaroni salad, I've usually had enough and the craving is over.

But, potato salad, good potato salad, can take over my mind and body, just like it did yesterday.

Homemade potato salad, of course, was on the table, with sliced egg w/ paprika around the top, big chunks of potato, the right amount of mustard and pickles, and I placed a scoop on my plate. This was after I filled more than half my plate with assorted fresh fruit. I put another scoop on, as it started covering the fruit. Then another scoop.

While the Traeger-grilled applewood/cherrywood/mesquite-pellet cooked cheeseburgers waited for plate #2, I started on the potato salad. I couldn't move on to anything else until I had finished all that was on my plate.

Wish I hadn't ate so much chili-cheese-pico on chips earlier, as it made the Cheeseburger later much less appetizing.

4th of July is like Thanksgiving. You really have to plan ahead and choose wisely.

That said, I did have a lot of macaroni salad last week, just a small amount at a time, for about 7 days in a row (to get me in the mental mood for 4th of July celebrations...also had beer brauts w/ sauerkraut on hoagies...goes good w/ a little bit of macaroni salad, as do the Kettle Pepper potato chips).

I like the idea of macaroni salad more than the actual thing. I always think I’m going to like it but then I’m usually disappointed. Maybe one day I’ll learn (maybe not).

Potato salad, on the other hand, almost always delivers.

If you're from Cincinnati, the real question is whether your potato salad is German style or American style?
