I know this thread is focused on lousy ownership, but I hope we can take time and appreciate Elly, and his amazing growth as a player. Bona Fide superstar now, and he’s all ours.

If Pagan was healthy and they could trade him, I'd be actively rooting for it. Removing his $8 Million from next year would be a tangible improvement to next year's team. These expiring contracts won't make any difference unless they get talent back. I'm just not understanding why anyone cares one way or another if they get a PTBNL for Justin Wilson.
I’ve explained it to you. Part of rooting for a team should include rooting for its financial success. But their hatred of the Reds’ owners causes some fans to forget that. Paying Frankie Montas’ $6.5 million for the rest of the season and buyout will be a negative that will undoubtedly be reflected at some point in the future.

Take the money you save from dealing the bozo like montas and put it in the Elly Piggy Bank.

Not caring if the Reds save money on Montas' contract isn't tilting at windmills when there's a perfectly reasonable BASEBALL reason not to move him for nothing. Someone is going to need to pitch those innings. If they can trade him for something decent, fine, but don't do it just to save money on an expiring contract.

They’ll find someone to pitch those innings. They don’t have to be pennant-winning innings, because we won’t be burdened with a playoff race. Get an Overton or something to do it.

FWIW, I do believe they’d get a C+ or B- prospect for him, so it wouldn’t be purely financial.

Agree and add Steer. I know he isn’t Elly, but no way I’d consider trading him!

Some fans just refuse to accept the interrelationship between ownership success and team success.

They will actively root for bad financial decisions on the premise that they don’t care about owners pocket books.

You don’t have to love the owners to want the team to make sound financial decisions. IMO, paying Frankei Montas for the rest of this season, and buyout, is not a sound financial decision. I’d trade him for salary relief, if i could get it.

I'm not rooting for or against their financial success. It's just not the way things work. If they lose money, they could cut next year's budget to offset it. If they make a windfall profit from dealing a bunch of already budgeted salaries, that won't increase next year's budget. That's not even a knock on the Reds. That's how all teams generally operate.

As far as rooting for their financial success, if they'd open the books so I could examine them, I'd be more likely to have enough knowledge to know what I'm rooting for. Since they refuse to do that, I trust that they wouldn't have signed those contracts without sufficient revenue to achieve their profit goals, so their financial success has already been achieved. It has no impact on the things I can visibly see and root for.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

If they can do that, fine, move him, but KC is for just giving him away just to get out from the contract.

If they can get a prospect, I’d move him, before his ERA climbs any higher.

Budgets change throughout the course of a fiscal year. But I’m going to stop here because I feel like I’m defending the castellini’s and that’s not something I ever want to do.
