I can't in any way, shape or form make a positive case for Candelario to be on any major league team next season, yet alone the REDS.

I wish you would speak your mind instead of beating around the bush. LOL Btw, I agree with you. Candy has not impressed me as being a very good player in any capacity. I'd rather have Candy Maldanado and, for all I know, he might be dead.

Now that the sample has gotten bigger, I hope everyone now understands that Ty France should not be brought back. His OPS+ as a Red is 94 which is worse than the OPS+ of 96 he had in Seattle that resulted in him being designated for assignment. I do like his defense at 1B, but he's not worth the $8 Million or so he'll get in arbitration. Use that money on something else, almost anything else.

He's an easy non-tender IMO. The Reds should be open to a minor league deal with him and an invitation to spring training if he doesn't catch on somewhere else (which I think is doubtful).

I came here to post the same thing.

I still like him as a RH power bat off the bench, but not at $8M. Non-tender him and try to sign him to around half that.

Half that is still an overpay IMO. He's limited to 1B and DH, spots where teams try to put bats who can't play anywhere else. The Reds have several of those already. Many of whom are more versatile, have more speed and have a better history. As a bench player, that lack of defensive utility makes him a poor choice and on the Reds in particular a poor fit. He'll probably find similar problems all over baseball. Minor league deal is all I would offer if it was my decision.

Sign a Catcher who can play 1B if we want to add another to the crowd. $4 Million would probably be just about right for Gary Sanchez and he'd make it much less of an offensive drop-off when Stephenson needs a day off.

Reds first base/DHs, assuming a return of McLain, are - CES, India, Candelario, Steer (also plays outfield), France.

Reds need to reduce the number of these guys, not maintain or add to it. I wouldn’t mind if they replaced all of them with a big hitting first baseman, but more realistically they have to reduce the number of these guys.

Agreed. France isn't even an above average bat anymore. India and Steer are both better. Candy probably will be with health. I'll believe CES when I see it, but they don't need France and they certainly don't need to tie up resources to add more of what they've already got. Use those resources, whether it's $8 Million, $4 Million or the league minimum, in something else.

I don't see any reason that France should appear in a Reds uniform again after tomorrow. I don't think it was a bad idea to pick him up, but he's obviously not done anything to warrant paying him next year.

He's a Wes Parker type in a modern game

Well said. Waiting for all the boo-hoo'ing from the players about they could-would-should have done.

    Why are you waiting?

What sort of joy are you getting from all of this?

With that attitude I'd think maybe snuff films are more your thing than baseball?

I don't know, all this seems to indicate he's exactly the kind of guy they'd bring back. Maybe we should watch the decision on France as a bellwether of what kind of a ball club they want for 2025.
