    Montas Traded to Brewers

    From Passan

The Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring Frankie Montas from the Cincinnati Reds, a source tells ESPN.

First-place Milwaukee adds to its rotation with one of the best starters left on the trade market in an intradivision deal. @ByRobertMurray was on the news.

So much for not trading good players to divisional foes.

Well they didn’t trade a good player to a divisional foe..

Acquiring Junis, a reliever on an expiring contract known for going 2-3 innings tells me Nick Martinez’s bags are probably already packed.
What would you say.....ya do here?

What's the reason to trade martinez? Too expensive for long relief?

Also curious about who will take Frankie’s rotation spot. He may not be in the org yet.

    Might it be Junis?

I wasn't one, but he's been pretty awful for a while now. Almost batting practice. The only thing I dislike about this move is that he's going to the Brewers, who will find a way to get a boatload of good innings out of the deal.

    Mark Feinsand @Feinsand
The Reds will receive OF Joey Wiemer and RHP Jakob Janis from the Brewers for Montas, per source.

To MIL? Return had better be good for sending him to a divisional foe.

Regardless, glad we get clarity on whether or not we’re selling.

    Now deal some bullpen pitchers.

Junis and Weimer? Not too bad for a guy we didn’t want. Weimer’s a Cincy guy.

Wiemer has hit LHP pretty well in the bigs(.771 OPS). Pretty good pop, strikes out a lot, and can play all 3 OF spots. So basically the right hand version of Benson. Could be decent player to have around.

And, Junis is a Veteran Reliever, so what you get any given year can be great, neutral or bad. There's just no predicting it. It's an arm.
