Crazy that they'd put Boise St ahead of your Hoosiers. Boise St has half as many wins, only having beaten Portland St and Georgia Southern. IU has 4 wins including one over a Power 4 team. ESPN's Power Index has IU at 15 and BSU at 27

I think the Hoosiers will be well inside the Top 25 seven days from now

Early season top 25's are always funny. Some teams you think are going to be good heading into the season are garbage and others you think are bad end up being pretty good. You are also dealing with breaking in new starters, new coaches/coordinators, etc.

Just a couple of my thoughts on the early season:

Bama looks to be doing just fine. They won't be what they were with Saben, but DeBoer seems to be doing just fine.

I don't think Georgia is the world beaters everyone thought they might be. They may struggle more than usual this season. Is Carson Beck the #1 QB in the draft?

USC went from being on the outside looking in, to the on the inside looking out, back to the outside. They aren't there yet, will they ever get there under Reilly?

NC State, yea not so much.

Oklahoma will rue the day they joined the SEC. I don't know if they are good enough to compete at the level they want to in the SEC. Its far easier when you have one talented equated game. Now you will have 6-7 talented equated games a year.

What is Clemson? Still don't think Dabo works in the new version of college football. But it looks like Clemson v Miami for the #3 seed.

I think Tennessee would be my #1 right now. But its quite possible that both NC State and OU end up with at least 5 losses this year. Those wins may not look as good.

For sure it's more likely given the increased size of the SEC and the Big Ten but I think this sort of thing will be extremely rare for any non SEC conference

Well this will be interesting. Starting QB for 3-0 UNLV quits team this week over NIL.

    https://apnews.com/article/unlv-sluk...66427158d964d3

He claims he's not getting what was promised. Other rumors that he's been renegotiating NIL money week to week. Other rumors he's being paid by a bigger program to sit the rest of the year and transfer next season.

Odd thing is he's a senior transfer from Holy Cross whose numbers aren't really popping off the page. UNLV is considered a G5 playoff contender.

After Cignetti dumped JMU for IU and the Dukes hired Bob Chesney away from Holy Cross, a lot of JMU fans were hopeful Sluka would come with him. Looks like we might’ve dodged a bullet there.

On the other hand, he wants to stay in school and redshirt, presumably still on scholarship. If I’m
The coach and he quits like this, I probably say nope” and work to have his scholly revoked if they can do sonow (and certainly after the semester.)

I hate that college sports has gone up this, but this might become more common

There are a couple of people that say all of Sluka's financial commitments were met. However I'm seeing one person say he only received $3K of the $100K he was promised to transfer to UNLV.

    Just a legit good team.
Don't judge, I live in Bloomington, am an IU grad, have season tickets to IUWBB, attend a lot of men's soccer matches, but have derived a perverse enjoyment from the futility of the football program for many years. I'm not sure why, except that maybe I had always liked IU as a basketball school. That's certainly been tough to say in the last generation though, I'll admit. Or maybe it's the irony of IU always doing aerial photos of their stadium when OSU is in town. Or, possibly that I'm just not a big IUFB fan, since my undergraduate degree is from the University of Cincinnati. Anyway, if this team is for real, I'll have some adjusting to do.

There's a lot of facts that are up in the air. Was this promise in writing? I don't blame the player at all if it was agreed to and they're not giving it to him but if it wasn't in writing we may never know the truth

Seems like this is what we know so far:

    https://www.espn.com/college-footbal...l-dispute-next

His father, Bob Sluka, told ESPN they had a verbal agreement with UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion for what they believed was a "reasonable, fair number," even if it was much less than what Power 4 programs offered, but payments were repeatedly delayed and no effort was made to formalize a contract with their collective for that amount.

After UNLV's win over Kansas, Bob Sluka said Odom and Cromartie spoke on Sept. 19 and the head coach refused to uphold the agreement, instead offering $3,000 for relocation costs and asserting that the offer wasn't valid because it didn't come from him. Sluka's camp contends they never went to Odom seeking more money, only what they were promised up front. Marion declined to comment to ESPN.

Rob Sine of Blueprint Sports, the company that manages UNLV's collective, confirmed to ESPN that Sluka had no deal in writing with the collective and said the collective wasn't aware of any promises to pay Sluka $100,000. Sine also confirmed that Sluka received one $3,000 payment.

Sounds like that's pretty much what happened seeing as no one has refuted it. When folks refuse comment, that generally means they can't refute it.

This sucks for this kid who's likely not good enough to start for a Power 4 team. This is his senior year. Can he play again next year? Seems to me that everyone's losing here. The kid is lost and the team likely won't go undefeated. This is the ugliness of the NIL. Deals are often not written and then shenanigans can happen

Yes, that is why he is doing this now. As long as he doesn't play in 4 games he can redshirt. So, he played 3 games and is redshirting so he can transfer and play elsewhere next year.
