It's definitely a shock to the system on Tuesday of game week, but I think if UNLV can pull it together and win this weekend they still might be okay on their run to the CFP. This Sluka guy just isn't that good. Granted, that probably means their backups are pretty bad, but this team isn't winning on QB play.

I heard somewhere that after the hot start he came back and asked for more money. Don't know the truth behind that, just wanted to throw it out there.

Making some generalizations here, but this guy probably profiles as a group of 5 college QB. Limited to no pro upside, maybe gets a cup of coffee in some training camp or the USFL or whatever they are calling it now.

What I find ironic is if this guy leads UNLV to a playoff birth, he is a legend in UNLV football.

Good. I hope he finds a better deal for 2025

This sucks for this kid who's likely not good enough to start for a Power 4 team. This is his senior year. Can he play again next year? Seems to me that everyone's losing here. The kid is lost and the team likely won't go undefeated. This is the ugliness of the NIL. Deals are often not written and then shenanigans can happen
Is this something that is exclusive to the NIL era though? Before NILs have there been recruits that have been promised the moon in cash, cars, playing time, et. al. and some or all of the promises were never fulfilled? I don't think anyone can refute that. If what this kid's management is saying is true, it's a good thing we are in the NIL/free transfer era because before this if a kid was promised something and it wasn't delivered, it would be much more difficult to transfer and it would be difficult to call the school out for not delivering on their - or their representatives' promises.

If he was promised $100K and only received $3K I'm sure he asked for the rest of it and you can't blame him.

From what I've heard he's a run first QB and not a very good passer. Kind of like Tebow.

Oh I get if you were promised X and given Y, then I don't blame him. If you were promised Y, results were better than expected and you went in and asked for X, well then there may be some issues with him.

I guess the way I look at it, if he was a good enough QB he would be at a P4 school right now.

And if I’m a coach at another school and he was interested in transferring to my program, I’m not sure I would listen to him. It might be a polite “thanks, but no thanks.” I’m not sure I could trust him

I think I know what this means.....

But I do think coaches are going to be a little gun shy with this kid in the portal this winter. And I do think the universities need some legislation or agreed upon rules to continue down this path. I did hear that all NIL contracts are vetted by the schools, if that is true, I am more inclined to agree with UNLV's side of this debate. But I don't know that to be accurate.

Another interesting portal move was Bear Alexander, who started at Georgia, transferred to USC, and now is sitting out the rest of the season and is going to transfer again. Someone will take a shot on this kid, but I doubt its going to be one of the marquee programs. Sometimes to juice isn't worth the squeeze.

The thing in college football, unless you are the elite of the elite, there is always someone coming in who is better. For a buy like Bear Alexander, if you were that good, you would be entering the draft after this season. Quitting on your team midway through the season is going to turn a lot of teams off. While college athletes have complete freedom of movement right now, they still are 18-22 year olds who are known to make a bad decision or ten from time to time.

Sorry for the embarrassing typing and thanks for wading through it. That was awful.

From the sound of it, that's the problem. This NIL deal didn't involve a contract

Eh I think other teams will be interested in him. He has one year left of eligibility. He can’t transfer again. Next year is it.

Also, don’t be surprised if other teams were still reaching out to him saying “hey, if you enter the portal now and retain your last year of legibility come to Big State U and we will make sure you get three times as much in NIL.
What would you say.....ya do here?

Let's hope he gets it in writing this time

Don't you think he could have been at Big State U this past portal season if he were good enough?

Probably, but UNLV offered him a package he liked. I am not saying the kid is great here, I am just saying don't be surprised if he was tampered with.

The article posted said Sluka claims the $100,000 promise was made by an ass't coach over the phone. I didn't know ass't coaches had such authority. If he's going to sit can the school pull his scholarship? Way to much "power" being given to the athletes IMO.
