In college rich guys aren't making billions, in the NFL, sure but they are collectively bargained.
There needs to be a set of rules governing NIL and the transfer portal. It sounds like the Assistant coach said something like "hey man, you can make up to 100K if you win" and the kid thought that 100K was guaranteed. The only thing guaranteed is what you actually sign.

Some act like these student athletes were abused and mistreated by these colleges because they weren't being paid for their talents. No, those that "supplied the labor" were paid in trade for their talent by those institutions with advantages not available to the majoity of us - "You come play for our school and we'll give you a full-ride college education, free housing, meals, and other perks, as well as national exposure".
So we're not going to agree on this buddy, and that's fine. It's now become a business. And what you're seeing here with this UNLV QB is just the beginning as it's now "Show me da' money!" or else. The courts have competely swung the pendulum over to the student athlete's side. And if it's possible, and if I was UNLV, I'd pull his scholarship.
I'm not afraid to claim I thoroughly enjoyed college football because of it's amateur status, watching these kids play, and where money wasn't in the equation. It was different from the NFL.
We now have two professional football leagues. It probably wil ruin it for me. We'll see.
Now. As far as this $100,000 "promise" he claims was made to him by an ass't coach over the phone. He has nothing in writing, which is bad for him. IMO, a pretty stupid move on his part, if true. I personally am having a hard time believing it.
This CBS article (if not already posted) sheds more light on the situation, though it is the cooperative's side.

Rob Sine, the CEO of Blueprint Sports, which operates UNLV's collective, told CBS Sports it had not agreed to a $100,000 figure with Sluka.
"We were introduced to the agent less than a month ago for the first time and the agent said he wanted to explore opportunities for his client," Sine said. "We informed that he was not registered with the state or with the school and that he needed to be so the athlete needed to talk to the coaches directly. There was a discussion via email about $3,000 a month of a recurring payment and then the agent said no we're still discussing, we'll let you know how things progress, don't onboard my athlete onto your program yet. And that was it. All of this happens in the span of less than a couple weeks. We never agreed to $100,000, it was never brought to us that was what the number needed to be. I'm learning about a lot of this like you guys are.

OK. I have the Peacock app, and everything I've ever watched on there was free, didn't require a paid subscription. But if you want to watch OSU or Nebraska games you have to pick a paid subscription plan. So I can't watch OSU tonight. I cannot express in words on here what I'm feeling right now about this BS of putting games on these streaming services. I'd get a suspension. But it's BS.

The Indiana Maryland game is very interesting. Pretty much back-and-forth right now 21-21 after Marylands Hemby scores on a 70 yard run.

Hoosiers back on top after a really nice drive 28-21 end of 4Q
I’m glad I didn’t get a paid subscription to Peacock to watch that stupid Nebraska game. Someone finally scored a touchdown in this game, and it only took till the fourth quarter. LOL
