    Jerry Reinsdorf or Bob Castellini

Is White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf just as bad or worse than Reds owner Bob Castellini?

    What Say You?

I think they should both volunteer to start a colony on Mars and live out their days there.

Jerry was one of the main movers to break the Union in 1994. The guy has less of an excuse to be cheap along with the Union busting BS.

Reinsdorf owned the Bulls that won the NBA championship 6 times and the White Sox that won the World Series once.

He somehow screwed up owning the Bulls during that era and forced Michael Jordan into early retirement twice, but his 7 championships put him over the Castellinis for me anyway.

Reinsdorf, he did have the championships although he wasn't very good at holding on to them. Bobby C after starting off good and giving fans some hope quickly went the Scrooge way and decided to quit trying to spend money to have a winner.

Rich guys hate unions because it costs them money. They also want to keep the money and not spend it--except for personal items (houses, cars, Swiss bank accounts, etc.) Some rich owners love the game and want to see their city enjoy their team. Apparently, Bob is of the first group like Reinsdorf.

Good points on both sides. Bob did pony up for Votto which was just a few mil of being the biggest pro sports contract ever at the time. Then Phillips, then Bailey etc.

And as recent as the 2019 offseason they gave out their biggest ever free agent contract (to Moose lol) and were pretty good or entertaining at least until the firesale.

It’s been a long time since that Sox WS and most of my life since Jordan (which idk how much credit you get for making an obvious draft choice that ends up being the GOAT)….lord dude idk, maybe Castellini honestly, if I had to pick based on what I’d get in the present day.

I never did care for Mad Dog Chris Russo but he really unloaded on White Sox Owner Jerry Reinsdorf here.

Debilitating hernia is the answer and no one can convince me otherwise.

Bob would have drafted Melvin Turpin.

Jordan was drafted #3 after Akeem Olajuwon and Sam Bowie. Jordan wasn’t quite Jordan yet but within his first 20 NBA games, it became apparent how good he was. Ask a Portland fan about Bowie

Re: Jerry Reinsdorf or Bob Castellini

I think most of us are going to complain about any ownership group, unless it’s a billionaire lone owner who is flamboyant and likes toss money around. I don’t expect that to happen in Cincinnati any time soon.

I would be much happier if the Reds ownership would bring in a couple of FO types who know how build successful baseball organizations. Someone who knows how to hire savvy scouts, how to build effective player development departments, how to run strong farm systems, and how to wisely spend limited resources on acquiring players who can contribute in tangible ways to winning.

The Reds do spend money, but they always seem to spend it on the wrong players. If the Reds have $15 million to spend on a player on a one year deal, and they have four free agent options who might sign, I am confident that they would sign the player who would end up having the worst season of the four.
