Boy that is a whole lotta meh, until you get to Duno, in Low A. Maybe a couple from this year's draft will buck the trend.

That list has aspirational hope to someday reach the level of “MEH”. It’s just flat awful. The truly disappointing thing is guys like Logan Tanner and Matt Nelson were both high draft picks. I want to say both were 2nd rounders

Can you dh for the catcher and let the pitcher hit? Maybe that's the Reds plan moving forward.

    From Lance McAlister

    UPDATE: Saturday morning
8-17-24 John Michael Faile homered again last night!

    8-15 24
John Michael Faile collected three hits w/ HR in his first game Dayton Dragons Professional Baseball Team Thursday night.

He's a 24 year old C/1B. He was undrafted Division II North Greenville University where he set the career NCAA D2 record HR and RBI, hit over .400 in back-to-back seasons and won conference Triple Crown.

    College: .393-.483-.734-1.217, 81 HR, 339 RBI in 236 games.

Spent '23 in Independent ball: .353-21-70.

Eddie Taubensee was one of his coaches North Greenville University. In February, he told the Cincinnati Reds about him at Fantasy Camp. Reds signed him. He tore it up at their Arizona Complex League team earlier this year (.333 in 25 games). The Reds sent him to Dayton this week to help after injuries.

    Nickname is "The King"

Combined OPS 1.175 at every level he's played at in 335 games.

What a cool story. Thanks Tom Nichols, voice of Dragons, for info!

If Faile hits the rest of the way, he's a legitimate depth guy for late in 2025 or more likely 2026.

Like the Rays, the Reds prioritize defense at catching. The team did a nice job of developing Stephenson and he may be the starter for a few years to come. In the meantime, there are some guys in the minors who could ascend to be solid defense-first backups. Relative to other clubs, the organization has been successful at finding/developing talent at a challenging position, IMO.

Does adding a grand slam tonight help? Sheesh.

    Down on the Farm:

John Michael Faile, the undrafted D2 record holder we talked about last week......hit another HR for Dayton Dragons Professional Baseball Team last night. A 444-foot blast.

    He was 2 for 4. That's 4 HR in 8 games since being promoted from rookie ball. He's hitting. 353 with a 1.136 OPS in 34 at-bats.

I’m thinking Tanner was a fifth rounder, but could be wrong.

Tanner was a second; IIRC another catcher, Cade Hunter, was taken in the fifth.
