What does exit velocity have to do with the discussion? Change the subject when you don't agree with the results.
The discussion is about the bad combination of Candelario's slow bat-speed and lengthy bat-swing.
But, go ahead and start a new discussion about exit velocity if you wish.
Exit velocity is not a guarantee of success. It only indicates that "when you happen to hit the ball" you hit it at a certain rate. But, if you sacrifice the percentage of times you make contact in an effort to increase the average exit velocity and/or barrel-rate, then depending on how much contact gets sacrificed, then you are removing from the equation situational hitting and focusing too much on personal stats, which leads to fewer times working with your teammates to put rallies together to score runs. It's the main issue with most of the REDS. It's why 20% of the time, they score less than 2 runs in a game. It's the main issue with most of the Mariners, but at least the Mariners are finally recognizing this and are attempting to change their approach collectively as a team. It's already paying off for them, though it's going to take a different amount of time for each player to change their approach, especially mid-season and during a playoff push. It's not a problem for the MIL Brewers as they understand situational hitting to a degree that is the polar opposite of the REDS, sans T J Friedl. This is why they dominate most other teams in baseball year after year as it's organizational thinking that drives this approach. Doesn't matter who the Manager of the major league ballclub is. This is also why it's not Bell's fault, though he is still responsible for recognizing this and not "managing" the change that is needed.
Having an average exit velocity on the bat does not make Candelario an average major league baseball player. One has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
"One problem with people who have no vices is that they're pretty sure to have some annoying virtues."
That’s just me. The slider, imo, has deterred many a career. Rob Dibble had the nastiest slider I’ve ever seen. A friend of mine and myself used to say that if he keeps throwing that slider, “Dibble will nibble”, and we were right, he shot his elbow to poo.

Well, I’m not a pitching coach, so I won’t be put in that position. If a guy can’t get guys out with four pitches, he has no business on a pitching mound.
