    Good topic.

I'm guessing Richardson is on the I-71 shuttle between Louisville and Cincinnati most of the season, along with Zach Maxwell, Fernando Cruz, Graham Ashcraft (assuming health), Brandon Williamson (assuming health), Carson Spiers, and Yosver Zulueta. Phillips too, perhaps. Three positions (one starter, two reliever) could share nine arms, thereby keeping them fresh and ready to go.

I’ve been thinking about Lowder in rotation for opening day. If he finishes this season strong in the minors — why not?

I should have listed Martinez for the Reds.
He will probably opt out but could sign a new deal

That would be very nice. And Burns at the end of the year!

Glad to see Jose Acuna back in action and pitching well for Chattanooga the last few weeks. Not sure what held him back this year? Looks like he's being treated with kid gloves with his innings. I don't know much about him other than he always seems to put up solid numbers.

He was injured coming into the season, then got injured in the season.

Returns on the Tyler Naquin trade continue towards positive, with cautious optimism they'll keep progressing.

Re: Pitching depth, Where i think they should be next season

Here’s a post for Nick Martinez.

There may not be a a lot of drama left in the Reds season. Four games and four teams separate the Reds from the final NL Wild card spot, and with the D’Backs and Padres poised to never lose again, the Reds will have to be standard deviations better than the Braves, Mets, Cards, and Giants to make the playoffs. Unlikely. For Nick Martinez, however, the next seven weeks or so will be like a tightly-contested pennant race.

Martinez signed with the Reds likely thinking he’d have a shot at the rotation. It was his bad luck that Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, and Andrew Abbott all turned in to foundational pieces all at once. He’s been stellar in his role though, and now with Graham Ashcraft and Brandon Williamson sidelined - And Frankie Montas plying his wares with the Brewers, Martinez seems like he’s locked-in to a rotation spot for the remainder of 2024.

He has an ERA creeping towards 3.00. He never walks anyone. He has a shot at eclipsing 130 innings. If he wants to be the next Charlie Morton - it’s right there for him. Teams had success in converting stretch guys like Seth Lugo and Reynaldo Lopez in the full-go starters in 2024.

If Martinez can show he’s capable of handling a SP workload through the end of the year, my guess is he gets ~3 years and $60MM from some pitching-thirsty fringe contender. If he fails, the type of opt-out heavy deal the Reds signed him to in 2024 seems more likely.

He’s pacing because he wants to win… but he’s also pacing because this is his last chance to make ****-you money from playing professional ball.

He seems like a great guy. I’m rooting hard for him. I hope he pitches so well that he prices himself out of Brewers/Cards/Cubs territory and takes $60MM from the Giants and/or BoSox next year. Go Nick Go!

Because there is no reason to rush him. Like a month ago Redszone was calling this guy a bust and now everyone wants him starting the year in MLB lol.

One reason might be that the major league team has a hole in its rotation once Martinez opts out. If Lowder is the best guy to fill the hole, they should use him. It also means the Reds were cheap and short-sighted and didn't go out and get a solid starting pitcher, but if they don't, they should use the best internal option and right now I'd say that's probably Lowder.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

In today’s game you aren’t rushing a starting pitcher if he appears ready. You don’t leave him in the minors just to gain experience. Starting pitching is too expensive. Lowder worked 7 successful innings last time, he seems on track.

There’s another 5+ weeks to go in the minor league season. If Lowder continues to pitch well and deep into games, working on the areas coaches suggest, I think he gets strong consideration for next season’s rotation.

Look, I think we'd all love to see them sign a #2 starter to pair with Greene. That'd be fantastic.

I've followed the Reds closely enough - and I know you have too - to not expect that to happen, even if it should.

They've signaled that they want to keep the rotation young and affordable, and the Reds want to insulate themselves from higher-risk, long-term FA deals. That mean's keeping the pipeline flowing.

I do think we'll see $20MM or so invested into the pitching, but my guess it will be used on a swingman (like Martinez) and/or a quality bullpen arm.
