    Wild Card Race 2024

Reds are 4.5 games out of the 3rd WC spot with 42 games remaining.

Let's get funky like a monkey and go win this stupid thing.

(Would have been helpful if the Front Office had brought in some tangible help at the deadline, but whatever).

They can be tied with the Cardinals if they win today, so they should go do that.

Need to get to .500 and go from there. We need to pull a 1986 Reds. They were also 59-61 through 120 games. Went 27-15 the rest of the way to get to 86-76. I think this is doable. Does this get us in the WC3?

I'm not considering them in the WC race until they get to and over .500.

Pirates are looking down the barrel of losing their 10th game in a row. Nothing is over, but their chase for a WC spot is looking seriously unlikely

They should rebuild - trade Skenes, Hayes and Cruz for some AA pitchers. That way they'll quicken the pace to their next rebuild - they want to get a jump on the Reds doing the same.

I wholeheartedly endorse this strategy if their trading partner is the Reds.

The Reds need to get over .500 and firmly into 2nd place in the Central. Then it can become a race with Braves and Mets.

Just when you think you're out, they suck you back in. I live in Kansas now, so I tend to root for the Royals as my "backup" team, so at least one of those two teams will make progress in the wild card race this weekend.

Kinda crazy that the Braves are the ones holding the last wild card spot. When healthy, they are one of the best teams in MLB. Seems the Reds were not the only team snakebit by injuries this season.

My fanship of the Reds for the last month has been one of benign neglect.

And since I am the center of the universe and all that is revolves around me, I will continue to follow the Reds from afar. If they continue to win, you can thank me. Beer is an acceptable payment.

    Indeed.

Some teams always seem to find a way.

Other teams always seem to find a way to make excuses.

Well the Braves have been a team that has always found a way. But even they are having trouble overcoming their injury issues. They should be winning the division, but are instead fighting for their postseason lives against teams like the Reds.

    Sometimes the excuses are legitimate.

One of the more active teams at the trade deadline.

    Just sayin.

Kinda seems like the Braves are not going to make the playoffs, though.

Same. Seen this too many times already this season, it's either a lack of collective talent that can push under the spotlight, or something's wrong at the managerial level where it can't motivate guys.
