If the Reds can get over this hump, I think they ride it easily to a wild card spot.

There's only one Wild Card spot we can possibly reach, but we have the pitching to win that game on the Road. Our Pitcher is going to be better than theirs. We also have the magic that is Elly De La Cruz, and an incredibly intelligent hitter in T J Friedl who does what it takes to win games. Just a bit of an Offensive spark from one or two others and we have more than a 50% chance to win that road playoff game. We are also built well to win an extended playoff series or two or three if we can get to one in the first place.

We just have to get in.

    AUG 26-SEP 1 is a tough 7-game roadtrip @ MIN/LAD

SEP9-SEP19 is a 10-game stretch where they play the LAD and REDS four times each.

SEP 24-26 NYM and ATL play each other.

They also play PHI AUG 20-22, and they close out the season against the Kansas City Royals.

No team makes the post season every single year. (Although the Dodgers might like a word about that)

But most team ownership at least tries.

I was thinking about this the other day, and there's really only one realistic way to stop ownership groups like the Reds from grifting fan sentiment:

If taxpayer money is used at all in the equation... for the stadium, repairs, anything...

Then they need to make their accounting public. Full stop. Otherwise, they can always cry poor all they want, but they can do so on their own dime.

Because as it stands now, this whole taxpayer-funded-but-pockets-turned-out annual turdfest seems to have no end in sight. And why should it? As of now, there's zero incentive for Reds ownership to prioritize winning, at all. Essentially, they own a magic cash machine that prints more money they less they pay attention to it.
Publicly-available accounting as a condition for public financing makes sense to me. I'd support that as a law or as part of negotiations for new stadiums or public investments.

But at least in this century, the Reds' issues never have been that they are cheap. They are the smallest market in the game, and rarely have a bottom-five or even bottom-ten payroll. It's perhaps no defense to say "well, others are cheaper," but neither should it be ignored that the Reds' payrolls are higher, as a function of market size, than a majority (perhaps a large majority) of the league.

That would make it much more difficult to bribe public officials.

For the record, all sports organizations have to be independently audited every year for IRS reasons. My Brother-in-Law used to audit the Trailblazers for Arthur Anderson.

So, there's not complete anonimity as the public believes there is. You and I just don't have access to those audit reports, but they exist every year, and in any negotiations, could be required to be looked at. Any sound Commissioner would make this request. The information can't be publicly released, of course.

The Braves are catchable and the Reds have the best Pythag of anybody in the 6-12 slots. It's doable. The only team with a relatively easy schedule is the Cubs.

Didn't we win the series vs the Dodger last year in LA? In fact, wasn't it a successful west coast road trip for the team?

    Re: Wild Card Race 2024

    I was wrong.

Giving this team 45 hours to think about getting a win so they could FINALLY get to .500 was a very, very bad thing.

They needed to go straight to bed, get up and play an early morning game.

Can't give this team time to think. It's not a good outcome.

Always have wondered why the Death Star didn't just blow up Endor and then the forest moon if the original blast didn't take out the moon with it.

Let's get funky like a monkey and go win this stupid thing.

(Would have been helpful if the Front Office had brought in some tangible help at the deadline, but whatever).

They can be tied with the Cardinals if they win today, so they should go do that.

With Greene on the IL, just forget all this.
