He had a .222 AVG in May and a .173 AVG in June, so probably not. Been really good in limited appearances since July started though.

If the goal is to try to get into the wild card, they should be using him more (until he starts hitting like he normally does), but if the goal is to try to get into the wild card, the front office should have done more at the deadline so I dunno.

This lineup just needs McLain desperately. Plus another guy to go on a heater.

That's completely different than what I'm talking about. There's this thing known as being humble and sometimes recognizing that you can best help your team (coworkers) in other ways. If you're suggesting that being humble and maybe even self-deprecating is something a manager would get upset about, then I don't know what to tell you.

If you lead Elly off, then there's a better chance he comes around to score without a homerun, but then you take away the number of runs he could knock in with that power.

Don’t know, just what I heard on WLW pregame show yesterday. I can’t remember which date they said in May though, it seems like the 8th. Wouldn’t be too hard to figure out average from May eight until now. Maybe I will.

I agree about Freidl at leadoff, especially with Indias big time slump. Sometimes it’s best to play the hot hand, just like Espy.

Edited. Sorry, missed the last half of your post. We do agree about the front office

Need series wins BUT need some sweeps in between going forward.

    This^^

Elly is the best offensive player we have by orders of magnitude. He should bat as many times as possible.

The Braves are the 3rd WC team right now. They are on pace for 86 wins. In order to reach 87 wins the Reds would need to go 28-14 the rest of the way. They’ll need some sweeps.

Also, and this is very important for a leadoff hitter, he takes more pitches than any player on the team so not only others can get a look at him, but it's likely that after his 3 PA's, he's seen 20 pitches. Since Gibson is usually removed before he gets to 100, that's more than 20% of the total of pitches that Gibson is likely to throw. He helps tremendously to get the team into the bullpen sooner, while giving others in the on-deck circle a chance to see a slough of his pitches, too. We have a very young team that hasn't seen most of the pitchers in the Majors more than once or twice, if at all. India helps a lot in that regard (as does Friedl, probably the team's best leadoff hitter and best #2 hitter, but Elly gets #2 for many reasons by Bell). Gibson went 7 innings in his last outing. We'd like to make it 5 innings.

We have a lot of #7, #8 and #9 hitters,...at least 5 in every daily lineup, when it would be best to have just 2 at the most.

India is fine for batting 1st.

India just missed a couple big hits yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised if he busts the slump tonight

If he gets on base twice tonight, no matter how, he's done his job.

If he sees 20+ pitches in his first 3 PA's, he's done his job.

If he gets himself to 2nd Base by himself (BB/HBP/1B + SB, 2B or better) twice, he's had an ideal day.

I agree with most of what you’re saying, but his job is also to get on base, which as leatherpants pointed out, he has done a very poor job at that lately. It’s up to management and whomever to recognize when a guy is struggling and make adjustments accordingly. Same goes for when a guy is hot. I think this organization often struggles with that concept.

India, like many others will stay in that leadoff spot for 50 plate appearances after everyone has been beyond ready to move him down as needed in the lineup. Maybe he’ll get back going, but that’s not typically how it’s worked with several Reds in the order over the last few years.

He might go 4/5 with 3 triples and have to sit out the next game due too much running

He's still at the 93-Percentile in BB%, and 81-percentile in xbwOBA on the season. Someone who is in those percentiles, you need to stick with them in the leadoff spot. One thing that hasn't changed is his high-pitch count, and that's worth leaving him there at the top spot.

Not confident in Pagan here. I'd have rather seen Spiers get the start.
