Could Cody Bellinger Go To The Yankees?
The New York Yankees came into the offseason focused on signing a left-handed slugger.

After missing out on free agent superstar Juan Soto, they then failed to pull off a trade to get left-handed hitting Kyle Tucker.

So where do they go to get that left-handed bat now?

MLB insider Ken Rosenthal thinks it is “obvious” that they go back to the Cubs to get lefty-hitting infielder/outfielder Cody Bellinger.

At this stage, Reds should be bidding for Teoscar or Santander or maybe Christian Walker.

if they can pay Nick Martinez $21 million, they can offer a star hitter $20 M per year for several years. If they lose out than go another route. Be creative, maybe one such player will get disappointing offers and Reds can swoop in.

Some of the names being floated are good players but won’t get Reds out of fourth place, except maybe up to third.

The Cubs signed a star, sign someone in the same general vicinity, even if not quite as good.

Spot on. If the Cubs get Castillo too they’ll certainly be the favorites in the central. Reds have to respond.

I'd be happy with Kepler too.

He’s heading into his age-30 season and doing so on the heels of a .235/.308/.506 batting line (129 wRC+). Santander doesn’t hit for much average and typically carries a pedestrian (at best) walk rate, but he’s been a consistent source of power for the O’s in recent seasons.

Defensively, Santander hasn’t generated particularly strong reviews in recent seasons, but his work in 2024 drew harsher grades than usual. Defensive Runs Saved pegged him at -7, while Statcast’s Outs Above Average was at -2.

Paredes is a full win better per season then Steer (he's better on both sides of the ball). The closest I can find on the Reds is Tyler Stephenson (years of control and performance), though the position is hard to compare

Wesneski has a sub-4 career ERA.

    It's something like:
    Stephenson
    Collier
    Santillan or Moll?

I'd guess Bellinger or Suzuki for Castillo would be enticing for Seattle.

The question is whether the Mariners want to part with the cash required to make that deal.

Stephenson is significantly more valuable than Paredes

That was a sweet move by the Astros. They are trying to stay under the tax apron. They get a Bregman replacement with 3 years of control and a high-end prospect back.

Unfortunately are likely competing for the same guys as the Reds in free agency, though, as they have vacancies in the OF and 1B

Yeah there isn't a perfect comp on the Reds, but the point is he is a lot better than Steer. He'd probably be the second best position player on the Reds. 119 ops+ over the last 3 years and solid on defense.

That my reaction was as well but if the AAV was low it would make sense but the AAV won't be low. It would be like giving a long contract at high money to an Adam Duvall who was also bad at defense a couple of seasons ago, Santander's career OBP makes it a non-starter for me.

Tucker Barnhart signed a minor league contract with the Rangers.

Cubs sign C Carson Kelly to a two year deal.
