Yes it is sad. When I first starting keeping up with baseball in the early 70's, the A's, Reds, Pirates and Orioles seemed to be the prominent teams. You could count on those four being in the playoffs nearly every year. The A's had an underappreciated dynasty back then with three straight world championships that topped it all off. So it is with sadness to see them move out of the city where they had some truly great years. I didn't think they were moving for a couple of more years or I would have set my DVR to watch yesterday. I would have really liked to have seen their last game in Oakland.

I liked to watch games in that dump, thought it always got an unfairly bad name. Really easy to see from everywhere, good crowd. Sure it was dumpy and substandard but so are a lot of us.

Looking at the worst run differentials in MLB history I came up with a short list of the biggest stinkers, might have missed some though

    Code:
    Team	Season	RD
    CLV	1899	728
    PIT	1890	628
    STL	1897	496
    BOS	1932	345
    DET	2003	337
    NYM	1962	331
    CHW	2024	314
    PHI	1939	303

Skenes is the truth. I look forward to seeing him in the playoffs with his next team.

Wonder if he's got Snapchat streak going with Gerrit Cole.

He and EDLC may team up for a world championship team. Neither will be on their current team.

When the Tigers swept the Reds they were barely at or just below 500. I think. The consent was that if you can’t beat a mediocre team like them you aren’t making the playoffs. Turns out they were better than we thought and got better without making any moves that I’m aware of. They also used a pitcher who could win the CY award that went over his innings limit.

If the current scores hold, it’s looking like there will be a double header tomorrow between the Mets and Braves to determine who gets the final 2 NL Wild Card spots between those two teams and the Diamondbacks

Arizona and NY won. Atlanta lost. This means the full doubleheader between Mets and Braves will be played tomorrow.

If either team sweeps, that team and Arizona is in. If they split, the Mets and Braves are both in.

Have to wonder if they work out a secret agreement to split the series.

There was a similar situation a few years back in the NFL. I believe one of the teams was the Raiders. It did not materialize, the teams played full tilt, but it was definitely seriously discussed by many before the game.
