Red Sox gave up a lot for Crochett - time will tell if its worth it. Not sure this deal puts them out of the Burnes bidding either.

Openers are for losers
Teel might start this season at the major league level. The White Sox backup is old friend Chuckie Robinson.
Meidroth is likely the 2B or 3B-- neither Vargas nor Sosa have performed well at the major league level yet.
They could use more help offensively too. I suspect the Reds could make a palatable deal for Robert with AA guys (O'Donnell and/or Rodriguez, Arroyo, Stewart, or Collier) and higher (CES or Marte).
I figured he'd fetch a lot. I'm not surprised
My guess is Burns is headed to the Cubs

We'd have to include at least 2 top 100 guys plus another top ten organizational guys. I don't think that'd be worth it from our standpoint. We need hitters
Seems like a great deal for CWS. Crochett is electric but can't see him staying healthy when stretched out.
"In our sundown perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing 'base', a certain game of ball. Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms, the game of ball is glorious"

The Bohm situation
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/598...mano-outfield/As the Phillies continue to explore a potential trade for Alec Bohm, Phillies manager Rob Thomson called his third baseman this week. Bohm is training in Houston.
“He’s in good shape,” Thomson said. “He’s working hard lifting, and he’s actually hitting. I just wanted to let him know we’re not We’re not shopping him. But because he’s a good player, there’s a whole lot of interest in him from other teams. Obviously, you have to do your homework and talk to people and listen.”
Maybe it’s a matter of semantics; the Phillies had made it clear to clubs at the onset of the offseason that Bohm was available in a trade. They do not have to trade Bohm and won’t if they do not think they can land a decent return. They have just thought Bohm was their best chance at obtaining meaningful value in an attempt to “shake up” the roster
“This is probably the first time he’s gone through something like this, so I just want to ease his mind,” Thomson said. “It’s part of the business that you’ve got to get through. Because it’s the first time, I thought it was important to reach out.”
The Mets are open to paying down part of Starling Marte’s contract to facilitate a trade
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/...rte-trade.htmlThe Mets don’t necessarily need to trade Marte. They’re willing to pay to stockpile depth under Steve Cohen’s ownership. Yet he’s probably fifth on their outfield depth chart and doesn’t have a great path to playing time.
To find a taker, the Mets would need to eat a decent chunk of money. Marte is under contract for $19.5MM in the final season of a four-year free agent pact.
If he were a free agent, he’d probably make a little less than half that. He’s coming off a league average .269/.327/.388 showing with seven homers through 370 plate appearances.
Marte stole 16 bases in 17 attempts, though his defensive grades in right field have plummeted. His once elite speed is essentially average at this point. A bone bruise in his right knee cost him around seven weeks between June and August.
Red Sox may be a fit as they search for a righty-hitting outfielder. The Guardians, Padres, Astros, Royals, Reds and Marte’s old team in Pittsburgh are other teams that could be in the market for corner outfield help.
Marte seems like a Reds move, so in other words - not good and a half measure.
What would you say.....ya do here?
Starling Marte shines on both offense and defense at times, in brief moments. Then he is hurt and gone for 5 weeks. Hopefully this doesn’t happen, unless we send a very minor player or maybe if he comes with a better player in the minors with a strong future.
They would have to pay down more than half of his salary and even then I’m dubious he’d be of much help.
As a secondary move it’s intriguing. Good clubhouse guy.
Starling is due 20 million. The Mets would have to eat 12-15 of that to make sense for the Reds. He's still a decent bat, but at 36 the defense is fading. He was 85th percentile in run speed in 2021, and that has dropped to 43rd in 2024.
