I'd be wary of tossing a guy like Marte aside based on a f'd up season.
It wasn't too long ago people were shooting Tyler Stephenson into the sun for eating crackers in bed

Agreed. He has a better hit tool than most of these guys. Having him start in AAA isn't tossing him aside. That's why I think they should focus spending in the OF and not the IF. Let Espinal serve as a stopgap until Marte regains his mojo. If he doesn't, Collier and Stewart are also within reach in 2025. Meanwhile an IF with McLain, EDLC and Espinal will be a refreshing change on defense.

I myself haven’t totally given up on him yet, but he certainly doesn’t appear major league ready, offensively or defensively. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest he actually earns a position by performing well in AAA first.

Then they need to make an acquisition IMO. They have a team full of third baseman, but the only guys who can actually play 3B are the utility IF and the starting SS.
It doesn't make sense to me to put a lot of resources into a stopgap 3B when Marte, Collier and Stewart will likely all be on the 2025 roster at some point.

I'd look to sign either Juan Soto (for ridiculous money) or two corner FA.
Currently, I'd lean toward the following OF:
LF Tyler O'Neill
RF Anthony Santander
RF Teoscar Hernandez
CF Cody Bellinger
At 3B, I'd be happy with:
- Alex Bregman
- Matt Chapman
At 1B, I'd check on:
- Pete Alonso
- Christian Walker
At DH, I'd like:
- JD Martinez
Were I to sign one of the above, I might be persuaded to gamble on (and save money on) one of the following instead of a second high-end FA:
- 3B Yoan Moncada
- RF Michael Conforto
- LF/RF/1B/DH Ryan O'Hearn
- OF Randal Grichuk
- LF Jesse Winker (though he'd be my DH almost exclusively-- as a result, I'd have to juggle my lineup concerning Steer and/ or India)
- OF Jurickson Profar
- C/DH Gary Sanchez
- 1B Paul Goldschmidt
- OF/DH Marcell Ozuna
IMO, Soto by himself would vault this club into contention. Barring that, they'll need two offensive corner guys, a backup C, a SP of some sort, plus assorted RP as depth pieces.

The Reds are not going to sign Juan Soto. Even if they were willing to pony up the $$$ (which, really?) he would probably want to go to a team who can pay him similarly plus have a chance to win season in and season out.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Don't MLB players need to adjust at the MLB level? We just gave Benson a chance no other team in baseball would have and he pretty closely resembled his minor league career with that chance. After a PED's issue we've given Marte a massive chance too. Why doesn't CES get one? He showed much more than either of them in the minors and was better longer last year than Marte. Seems like he should get a chance before we block him with a signing.... which is what I think a lot here want for some reason. I've advocated for letting Benson go after this season... I'd do the same next year if CES puts up sub .200 numbers.
As for last year.... I just checked. CES started slow and was in the .210 range before he adjusted and rose up to around .270 at the end of the year. So.. he adjusted it seems... not the other way around.
Not often a guy who shows power to all fields and hits better at each successive level comes along in Red's land and we'd play Candy over giving him a chance?

I’m with you on that. If the Reds sign any impact player, it needs to be an outfielder, not another 1st baseman like France. They already have enough 1st baseman/DH types and nobody is going to want Candy for his price tag. I also agree if you’re going to give Benson 350 at bats this year and Marte over 200 at bats, CES deserves the same respect. Now if he shows up to spring training and shows no improvement with his plate discipline, then I could see making him start off in AAA. Otherwise I think he deserves a shot from the get go.
