    Anyone here have IT certs?

I've begun studying for both CompTIA's A+ and Linux+ certs. The CompTIA A+ Complete Study Guide is the book I have, I'm not sure if I should read it cover to cover. I've been around computers for many years going back to 1996. In high school in 1990 I took a BASIC course. So far I've taken the pre-assessements for both A+ modules, and averaged about a 65%. I'm very weak on networking, right off the bat.

You guys are fortunate! I *think* I'd enjoy working in cyber security, I'm a little bit of a sleuth.

It’s very interesting work, it pays well, and is in high demand. But it’s also not easy. You need to understand all of IT infrastructure and architecture at both a high macro level and small detail micro levels. You need to be very diligent and understand all the security and functional controls. But it’s in high demand so dip your toe in the waters and see if you like it. Oh, and it’s really bad if you screw up. But it’s a lot of fun (and lots of hours).

I have A+, Net+, Sec+ and a few Amazon/Microsoft certs. Check out Professor Messer on YouTube for A+ videos. He regularly hosts live study groups as well. I also recommend Google's IT Support Professional certificate on Coursera. It's free for the first 7 days, then $49/month. It covers a lot of what's on the A+ exams. It shouldn't take you more than a month.

Arise and walk, come through. A world beyond that door is calling out for you. Arise and walk, come through. It's calling out for you.

Lots of very appreciated replies, thank you all! The channel I've been watching is BurningIceTech on YouTube. Right now I'm unemployed and not able to get my frame of mind appropriate for self-learning. Once I find a job (hopefully???) I'll be able to relax and re-center myself.

I did screw up on a job interview the other day. It was for a clerk position. The error I made was showing them my OTHER resume geared toward IT work. Why I did that, I'll never know. The interviewer would not shut up about it after that, kept asking "why do you want this clerk position?" The only answer I could think of was "maybe down the road after I've passed the exams this company might have an opportunity for me in IT". Bye bye job. Next time I'll just stick to what the employer is interviewing me for.
