Expect the Bengals to get well against Washington’s defense. It is B-A-D. Looks like they’re playing with only 8 guys out there or something.

There are penalties that are pretty much cut and dry. Off sides, false starts, blatant holdings, etc. Then there are penalties that are more judgement calls, you know you can call holding on every single play in football, but when do those holding penalties get called? There was a WEAK illegal touching penalty on Kelce that did take an INT off the board for the Bengals.
How many times do we see a defensive holding called to extend a drive on 3rd and 12 when the ball is thrown on the other side of the field. The 5 yard automatic first downs are killers in football. It seems (and I don't have raw data) the Chiefs get the benefit of the doubt on those calls more often than not.

I will admit that it appears that the Chiefs get the benefit of the doubt on a lot of calls. But what I can't figure out is why. They aren't in a major market. Until recently they haven't won a Super Bowl since 1970. They certainly had some very good teams since then but really not great since the last 8-10 years. Very passionate fans but that can be said about most NFL teams. The Taylor Swift thing only started last year and they have been getting calls long before that. Mahomes is pretty media friendly. He's on a lot of commercials but he's certainly not alone there.

I understand that data was only for last season, the part of the article I quoted stated that. I also understand that if there truly is some favoritism going the Chiefs way, that just shear numbers of penalty's isn't the best way of proving/debunking that theory. I do think it goes a long way tho, just my personal opinion.

There's no one else even close to the media saturation that Mahommes has. And that is not even taking into account the TSwift factor. KC, and particularly Mahommes, is a walking, talking brand identifier for billions of advertising dollars. Billions, with a B. If Mahommes looks bad, State Farm looks bad, for example. And now, also, when KC loses, Taylor Swift fans don't get the happy feelings and happy T Swift camera shots throughout the game.
Brady was a walking billboard for many companies as well, and he was treated just like Mahommes is (like a extra-protected class)... sort of. But Mahommes in on a whole other level there. He's a protected class to a degree the NFL has never seen before.
Mahommes doesn't even need game winning drives anymore. Just chuck it and wait for the PI call, or tuck and run and wait for the 15 yarder if anyone looks at him funny or whatever.

Mahomes may be the biggest star in the game today, that goes a long way towards getting calls.
But to add to it, the AFC Championship Trophy is called the Lamar Hunt Trophy. I believe Lamar Hunt was one of the founding members of what the NFL is today. They have always been a favorite organization.
The NFL doesn't need markets with what they have created, they need stars.
Reading an article about Lamar Hunt, he bought the franchise for the Dallas Texans (who became the Kansas City Chiefs) for $25,000 in 1960. The Texans were one of the 8 original AFL teams. The AFL and NFL merged in 1970 to form the modern day NFL.
The Chiefs are worth about $4.85B now.
The rose goes in the front, big guy.
I don't think the Bengals would have placed Myles Murphy on IR (can't come back before Week 5) if they knew they'd lose so many along the D-Line this early.
Murphy should be ready sooner than Week 5, but he'll have to wait.
With 6 IR designations left, they'll likely not place either Hill or Rankins on IR and just wait it out hoping one or both can return in four weeks or less.
In the meantime, that was a really good add regarding Lawrence Guy, a solid Veteran who didn't make the New England squad only because of a new Head Coach. If Belichick was still there, he'd probably be Starting for New England right now. Also, the Cowboys place on IR DT Jordan Phillips and Indy placed DT DeForest Buckner on IR. With both of those teams (and others) needing help at DT, the timing of adding DT Lawrence Guy couldn't have been better (though maybe two weeks ago would have been better, but that would have required one more person to be released off the 53-man roster).

They say Carolina is a mess (our opponent next week), but I think the Washington organization is a much bigger mess. I'm not so convinced about what I hear about the Panthers. Just think it was a bad choice to take Bryce Young and that's set them back five years (wasted the McCaffery trade). Benching him is at least steering the organization in the right direction and let's them work on developing everyone else, which is much more important right now than Young. Dalton will help with that.

The Chiefs have been a fan favorite for quite a long time. You only need to look at some of the marquee names that have been there. They've been to 6 Super Bowls and won 4. They were good long before Mahomes ever got there. Andy Reed is 130-51 in K. C. Dick Vermeil, Marty Schottenheimer, Hank Stram. That's a Who's Who of Head Coaches.
Len Dawson led the way before Schottenheimer made winning teams out of Marcus Allen and QB's Steve DeBerg, Dave Krieg, Joe Montana, Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac. Vermeil, Trent Green, Tony Gonzalez and Priest Holmes had high-powered Offenses leading fans to Fantasy Football League Championships for half a decade. Larry Johnson followed Priest Holmes as the over-matched (and most over-rated Head Coach of all-time) Herm Edwards did his best to destroy everything that was built up before him. Jamal Charles bridged the gap of Edwards to Reid as the Chiefs continued to run out league-leading Runningbacks in Total Yardage year after year. Andy Reid did the best he could with Alex Smith before he got just what he wanted in Mahomes.
It's a franchise that since Fantasy Football was introduced has always had premier Fantasy Football players.
And, many people like to be followers of teams because they don't want to root for someone else. Those who want to root against the Raiders and John Elway and the Broncos are going to naturally drift towards the Chiefs. The Jets and Giants were so bad for so long that the entire New England area that didn't want to root for the Patriots were set up well towards leaning to the Chiefs.
Before Andy Reid got there, the Chiefs finished 1st or 2nd in their Division 14 times from 1989 to 2012, all starting when Schottenheimer got there. Reid finished 2nd his first 3 seasons and hasn't finished anything but 1st the last 9 seasons. You could argue that the Chiefs are the most successful franchise in the AFC since 1989. My nephew, from Connecticut, has a Chiefs tattoo on his leg, something he's had for more than a decade.
Because of all of the big names this franchise has had, they sell a lot of jerseys.
Patrick Mahomes
Travis Kelce
Tyreke Hill
Kareem Hunt
Isaiah Pacheco
Jamaal Charles
Dwayne Bowe
Larry Johnson
Priest Holmes
Marcus Allen
Tony Gonzalez
Joe Montana
Trent Green (all he did was throw for 4000 yards every year before others began doing it)
Christian Okoye
Carlos Carson (3 1000-yd seasons)
Now, with Taylor Swift adding jersey sales (who knows how many followers of hers are going to buy Chiefs' jerseys who otherwise could care less about the NFL, and now they do) adding revenue to the NFL, the Chiefs have become the most popular team in the NFL.
CBS announced that Sunday’s Bengals-Chiefs game drew an average of 27.8 million viewers, making it their most-watched September game since 1998—26 years ago!
Paramount+ reported the game to be its most streamed game of all time.
It was the most watched telecast on any single network since Super Bowl LVIII.
Let's face it.
It's the Kansas City Chiefs World and we're all just living in it.
To defeat them, you've got to defeat them AND the refs. Bengals outplayed the Chiefs by 14+ points and still it wasn't enough. Ravens outplayed them the week before, but it wasn't enough. Five teams in the regular season last year outplayed them, but it wasn't enough.

Definitely not a bigger mess than Carolina, not after they finally got Snyder out of there. It’ll take a while to remove his stench but Josh Harris is an upgrade, they got a GM (Adam Peters from SF), and fired the ghost of Ron Rivera. Not saying they’ll be winning Super Bowls anytime soon, and I’m not sold on Dan Quinn, but fans have hope for the first time in forever. David Tepper shot to the top of the Worst NFL Owner list once Snyder slithered away.
