I don't mean to go all conspiracy theory here, but if you could script the KC/Cin game, would you do much different?

The game shows both on equal footing, Burrow being back, both teams going at it, both teams really not liking each other much. The flag gives KC the chance to hit a long FG to win the game, CBS gets the chance to pan to Taylor Swift in stands celebrating a win, its all there.

The problem I have with a lot of these bang bang calls, is the NFL has a direct line to the official. There are several times where you hear "replay assist" to change something pretty blatant. From my biased prospective, it was pretty much a jump ball thrown up late in the play. Similar to that of a Hail Mary thrown into the end zone where unless you outright tackle a guy there is no foul called. When a jump ball is thrown, you have to give the defender the ability to make a play on the ball. And the KC WR is moving backwards jumping into the Bengal defender who is jumping to make a play on the ball. IMO the NFL could have decided that it was a bang bang play with both people trying to make a play on the ball and picked the flag up. But that doesn't exactly fit the narrative the NFL wants, does it?

FWIW I think the Bengals will be just fine and think they can go on quite a roll from here on out.

The problem I have is, if you look at the last 4 or 5 years, in every big game the Chiefs rarely have any penalties called on them. The numbers don’t lie and typically, just like yesterday, the other teams have double the amount of penalties or more. Again, take a look at the penalties on their roads to the Super Bowls and it’s easy to understand why they always seem to get there.


I do blame the Bengals for having a rookie 7th round draft pick in the game on that play, when they are well under the salary cap, but regardless, that penalty would have never been called on the Chiefs and everyone knows that.

This game ended the same way the AFC Championship game did a couple years ago. The Chiefs get a huge penalty that gets them into FG range. They kick it and win. I'm tired of that script. It's getting old

It’s getting very old. I was in Louisville seeing my future in laws and left with 6 minutes to go, because I knew exactly how it would play out and I couldn’t stomach that.

Seems like a lot of Mahommes' "game winning drives" are just long penalties and a FG.

Here's the nice thing though. If the NFL is indeed narrative "influenced," the narrative for the Bengals doesn't line up any better than it does this season. The SB is even in New Orleans. Best narrative SB opponent for the Bengals would be the 49ers. Chiefs/Bengals in the AFC Championship, in "State Farm Red" Arrowhead of course, Bengals win with a last second field goal.

Only problem is if the "3-peat" KC narrative + Taylor Swift narrative is more profitable.

Jordan Battle was one of their best defenders last year (according to PFF) and can't get on the field this year. Hope we find out what's going on there this week.

Oh, I watched the replay and it was a garbage call. Never in a million years would they call that on the NFL’s beloved Chiefs.

Not saying the kid isn’t legit, just a tough spot for any rookie and they are well under the salary cap.

Like you, I fully expect the Bengals to respond well.

I misspoke he played 8 snaps , but the call was still bad. Came back to erase but was too late. I thought he was on Kelce more.

If they had played that well against the Patriots, they would have won that game.

They play/match up well against the Chiefs. They were also up for them. We'll see how well they play against teams they don't necessarily feel they have to get up for.

That is the formula for beating the Chiefs. You can't just outplay them and expect to win. You have to outplay them to the point that the refs aren't able to be in a position to determine the outcome of the game. They actually did that with 4 Turnovers to none. That's a dominant performance. But, the refs took one turnover away. That one there was at least a 7-point swing which meant that the Bengals would have been operating with a double-digit lead for most of the game, making a FG attempt irrelevant.

The refs did a thorough hose job.

There was one 30-yard gain for the Chiefs that led to a TD for them where Hendrickson was held on the play and no call. That's another 7-point swing. So, the Bengals really outplayed them by about 17 points and should have easily won the game if not for the officials.
