How much is the Bucs rivalry still a thing for you?

Went to PNC Park for the first time in Pittsburgh recently. Had a good experience there. Nice ball field and friendly fans.

I didn’t really start to follow the Reds until a few years ago and baseball in the early 90s. I don’t recall the 1990 World Series and only vaguely recall the 1992 NLCS. It seemed since then over the past 30 years both teams had some cute moments if you will but not much else.

To me the 2 teams are very similar: started around the same time, both have 5 World Series wins, both have a strong history even though the last 30 years haven’t been the best, and both are small market teams today.

Even their historical win and loss record against each other is very close to .500

I know in the 70s and 80s it seemed pretty intense the rivalry and probably times before that as well. Are the Pirates still a team you have strong feelings about?

At this point it doesn't really even seem like the Red Sox and Yankees is a rivalry.

I see we're getting Skenes v. Lowder on Saturday. Hopefully that becomes a good rivalry.

I hated the Pirates when Clint Hurdle was their manager intentionally throwing at opposing hitters.

Since MLB went to a balanced schedule, the Reds don’t play anyone enough to have a rivalry with anyone.

The Cardinals and further back, the Dodgers are the rivalries I remember. I’d say the Braves in the 90’s but that was one sided Braves.

They certainly had one with them in the 70's. They met four times in the NLCS. Both teams won two World Series in that decade. Both had a lot of great players. Even though the Reds were a big rival to them I always liked a lot of their players like Clemente, Stargell, Sanguillen, Hebner etc.. In fact Willie Stargell was my favorite non Reds player of that era. It kinda died away on the 80's and then a quick return in 1990. Reds had a great NLCS against them that year too. But after that both teams ownership quite trying to win and basically it is non-existent.

I don't think there has been much of a rivalry since the 70s. There was bad blood for a while when Clint Hurdle was their manager and telling his pitchers to throw at people, but I wouldn't call that a rivalry as much as outright contempt. The Reds weren't innocent either. They had guys on the roster who were more interested in fighting than winning. I'm glad those guys are gone.

Rivalries were much more prevalent in the 70's and 80's, when you played every divisional opponent 18 times (9 home/9 away), and every non-divisional opponent 12 times (6 home/6 away). No interleague abomination.

The Reds/Dodgers rivalry in the 70's was the gold standard of rivalries in the two-division era, though the Reds/Pirates rivalry was about as big as a non-divisional rivalry could be. (The only one that could come close might be the Yankees/Royals rivalry, who met four times in five years in the ALCS -- 1976, 1977, 1978, 1980)

Some rivalry. The Reds have won something like 18 or 19 out of the last 50 or so games played between the teams. If its a rivalry, the Bucs have owned it recently.

I'm 43 and it was the Dodgers when I was a little kid. The Cardinals as a younger adult and that always felt lame since they have the Cubs.

Never really the Pirates. Even in 1990 at the age of 9, it felt like I spent all year worrying about/hating the Dodgers and Giants and then the Pirates and A's descended from the heavens as final bosses I barely knew anything about.

In 1999 I remember thinking maybe the Battle of Ohio would develop into something interesting (both teams were so good that year) but the Reds didn't hold up their end of things.
