    Who are you out on?

You have to sell one stock from the below. Who are you out on?

    Benson
    Marte
    CES
    Hinds

    And why?

Benson. He K's way too much and doesn't seem to be able to recognize pitches. His plan seems to be simply don't swing until you have to and then he falls behind in the count and ends up chasing junk to get himself out. His occasional success sems to be from swinging hard and the ball hitting his bat. He's already 26.

CES (25 in 2025) and Hinds (24) have similar issues, but are younger.

Marte has been the worst of the group this year, but he has more potential and was a better overall hitter and defender prior to his lost season. He's also very young at age 23 in 2025, and has more chance to right the ship.

I don't want any of the 4 on the Reds opening day roster. I think they should part ways with Benson for whatever they can get or use him as a throw-in for a bigger deal. Marte, CES and Hinds should open 2025 in AAA and have to win a promotion to the big leagues.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

Benson is the most obvious one at 26 years old with a 40% K rate. Even against RHP this year the OPS is sub .700. Marte belongs in AAA until he shows he's ready. CES had a lost season after hitting well in the minors for 3 years and a decent few months in MLB in 2023. I'm 50/50 on him being in AAA or with the Reds to start 2025. Let him earn it in ST. Hinds likely isn't going to make enough contact, but might be a short side platoon guy.

I wouldn't say I'm in on any of the 4. Marte is the most talented, and CES has the best offensive track record.

Marte and CES I would hang on to. I see no reason to drop either of them based on minor league numbers or very limited major league numbers.

Never been impressed with Hinds, even in the minor leagues. Power is through the roof but he has too much swing and miss to capitalize on it. He would be my top choice to cut bait on, mainly because he might have some trade value to other teams. Benson has a lot of warts, but he can still hit the occasional long ball. Again, his strikeout rate is very sub-optimal to make him useful.

I think none of those guys will be on the opening day 26 man roster, though I very much hope that Marte will have earned a spot there.

Keep CES and Marte, to little MLB experience to cut bait. Marte is on a short leash for many reasons, not the least is his defensive woes.

    Benson for me.

We don't yet know what the Reds have in Hinds. I consider this year kinda a lost season for both CES and Marte. They get ample opportunity in supporting training next year.

Re: Who are you out on?

Out with Marte. PED's and it's fairly obvious that they contributed to his prospect rankings. The only time in his career he hit above .280 was for 30 games at the end of last year...and that was on PED's Let someone else resurrect him. Maybe their uni's will not clash with yellow.

One more year with CES. He was a beast in the minors. He was coming on strong at the end of last year. He lost this season to injury.

Hinds was never good in the minors...

Benson had a 60 game streak... so did Aquino... .who was a better defender. They will be in the same place very soon.

EDIT: I see people are using age as a factor. Not sure I follow. The Reds aren't keeping anyone on this roster into their 30's. They will either be too good and we can't afford them or they will not be any good and gone. Control is more important than age I'd think.

Re: Who are you out on?

I'm in on Marte and CES, there is stuff there to manage at a lower salary hit, that's key.

The other two can play in AAA or be #5 in the OF

I'm done with Marte and Benson. CES deserves another chance, but starts next year behind France on depth chart. Would like to upgrade at backup catcher, so Maile can go. Diaz cannot be the closer next year if we want to compete.

Re: Who are you out on?

I've been down on Marte but I think there's still something there. Unless a team wants to pay for where his value was a year ago, I'd keep him mix him at 3B/RF.

Definitely out on Benson. Keep Fraley as your LHH 4th OF and maybe Hinds makes it as the 5th guy.

I think CES will get plenty of rope next year and will hit a bunch of homers.

Re: Who are you out on?

It's obvious the Reds see nothing in Hinds. He doesn't even play over Benson.
    Neither will be around likely.
Zero chance the Reds give up on Marte or CES. Unless a team offers a good trade for them.

I know the question was who are we out on but that doesn't matter at all what we think.
I tried to answer on how I think the Reds think of the 4.

Re: Who are you out on?

Benson is the pretty obvious choice. That said, I don't have a problem with letting him compete in the spring (hopefully he figures some things out in the off-season and makes significant changes) and then in AAA if/when he doesn't make the Opening Day team. He's the oldest of the 4 but he still has options.

Re: Who are you out on?

Benson for sure. High strike out, low batting average which sums up his entire career coming up through the minors. Has the tools to be a solid player with his speed, pop and defense but too inconsistent to be anything more than a 5th outfielder.

Rece Hinds has not played regularly since his demotion to Louisville. Too early to rule him out, though I don't know if he will get a a real shot in this organization when now would be the perfect time to let Hinds develop and see what you have with him at this level. 2023 season in AA .269 23 HRs, 98 RBIs & 20 steals.

Marte I'm on the fence about. Think he could still use some seasoning in AAA. Without some speculative move in the offseason, crowded infield next year if they all break ST healthy. Candelario still in the mix at 3B, McLain's return to the infield, India, Espinal, EDLC locked in at SS. CES returning. France still under contract. Not to mention in the future with 3B like Collier & Stewart. Some of the infielders/prospects without a clear path to a starting spot should be packaged in a deal to help improve this team in other areas of need.

CES still very high on him. Get him healthy after the wrist fracture, I can see him someday being a consistent middle of the order 30 HR, 90+ RBIs hitter in the Reds lineup. Especially in GABP.
