They weren't anyone's boss, but got the title so they could get a pay increase rather than being lost to the competition.

I think that is why GM is now Head of Baseball Operations and assistant GMs are GMs and Department Managers are assistant GMs etc. It's simply to provide upward mobility so the best guys don't leave.
In MLB you can't poach a front office guy (without permission) unless it's for a job higher than what they currently have, which is how the President of Baseball Operations title stuff started.

As an example, another team couldn't hire Meador away from the Reds, unless it was for a higher position than his current VP/GM position. Another team couldn't hire him to be a GM, even if the GM was the head of baseball operations, they'd have to hire him as a President of Baseball Operations.

This is what happened last year when the Marlins wanted to hire a President of baseball operations over Kim Ng, who was the head of baseball operations at the time. They wanted her to stay on as "GM", but it would have been a demotion, which is why she left.

Or Aristedes Aquino. He swings at everything and every pitch is a Center-cut fastball in his eyes. When it actually is, he hits it really hard. The league has figured out that they don't need to throw it over the plate.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

I'd be very happy if CES has the career Nick Esasky had.

Derek Johnson staying is a good move by Francona retaining him.

I follow Lance McAlister on FB, and he posted the recent WLW700 interview with Terry, and he said this when asked about strikeouts ....

"Somewhere along the way it became accepted that everyone could strike out. You are talking about balance. Guys in the middle of the order, you want them to try and hit the ball a long way. But there are times in situational hitting, you need contact. Those are the things we are going to try and drive home. We are going to have a new hitting team (coaches) in place. It's going to take some time."

I actually saw AA a lot this year. Kinda got into the Mexican League. He's better than he was. But he's still too much of a free swinger. I hope he makes his way back to MLB.

    It's about time!

This tells me that there's a good chance that Marte AND CES will see Louisville at some point, Benson's gone, that they will consider keeping France (only if they can move Candelario, which isn't likely) and that they'll definitely keep Espinal.

I have no problem with Espinal as utility on the bench. Our only hope of getting rid of Candy is if he has a solid first half next season and we can unload him at the TD. But then, if the team is doing well and in the playoff hunt, and Candy has helped get them to that position? They might rethink that.

I'm not that enamored with France. Someone convince me otherwise.

I doubt that Francona is all that worried about grace periods or pressure. Where are the fans going to go?

Candelario has potential 20-HR power from the left side and at the GAB. That's a worthy platoon. Expensive platoon, but worthy platoon. At $8M France is gone if Candelario is here. France would be gone at $1M if Candelario is here. There wouldn't be a spot for France on the team.
