Reds Trying To Bring Votto Back

Reds Trying To Bring Votto Back
Reds president Nick Krall said the club has reached out to Joey Votto to gauge interest in returning to the team in a role to be determined.

He was a significant behind-the-scenes influence on most of the young core of players who were rookies and second-year players during the team’s surprise 2023 run into playoff contention.

“We just want to see if there’s anything there that might make sense,” said Krall, considering the possibilities for a role “wide open.”

I'd love him to be a coach at ST, at a minimum!

Hitting coach would have been nice.

Votto as PA announcer could make for a lot of fun and hijinks.

I think Joey would be great working with hitters in spring training and with the minor leagues periodically during the season.

Id love to have Votto on the coaching staff. Create a title for him and just have him around to help with hitting, helping with 1B tricks for younger guys.

Id love for him to tutor under Francona and maybe become his replacement.

Not sure what Joey would want to do. But bringing him in even in a small role to mentor players could be a huge spark to this roster. Learning from a guy who studied the game as Joey did can't hurt.

Would the Reds pay Votto to teach them to walk?

Votto shouldn't be teaching the players. He should be teaching every single minor league coach and scout (so they know what to look for in players) on how to teach plate discipline, so they can pass it on throughout the organization.

Youve nailed it I believe. I wonder what kind of instruction could be developed for pitch recognition skills. That seems to be a HUGE problem in our minor league hitters.
