To be fair, that’s not from the reds it’s from a reporter. That shows they actually made a solid offer. They simply cannot top what the White Sox got from Boston.
Which, IMHO, says more about the reds amateur scouting dept than Krall not being able to pull off a trade. The fact the reds have made a bunch of trades for prospects and have been drafting high and can’t match what the Red Sox put together for crochet is rather alarming.

Because on Jan. 31st, many of the options that were available on November 30th are no longer available. It's like shopping for toilet paper during COVID.

And, Martinez and Singer become two very tradeable options down the road.

I haven't seen enough of Steer at 3B to make the judgement.
I just hope that Espinal is Starting at 3B against Left-Handers and that Candelario is sitting on the bench against Left-Handers. The Veteran preferential treatment that Bell gave to Candelario last season cost us a lot of games.

They get credit for picking right with Acuna, grabbing the 2B in the Rule-5 draft, adding two excellent Veteran Starting Pitchers (most seasons this would be enough for an entire Winter's worth of moves) that makes every younger Starter a whole lot better.
There's 32 teams looking for hitting and there's enough hitting for about 8 teams. Adding hitting is a monumental task.
I also love the Espinal signing. It's more likely that the REDS (like most clubs) are going to have to use a lot of platoons to improve their hitting.

IMO, Steer is a 1B/DH. Some attribute a lot of value to his ability to play 2b and 3B, but he really shouldn't ever play there. There are guys who play a lot of positions because they are versatile and guys who shuffle from position to position because they aren't any good at any of them. Steer falls into that latter group IMO.

It says the White Sox wanted position players back and Boston has the best position player prospect group in MLB. If the White Sox had prioritized SP prospects the Reds would've matched up better. The Reds just graduated the #1 prospect in MLB in 2023. They passed on the headliner for Crochet(Kyle Teel) to draft Lowder which has worked out fine.
