The strike outs are due to the type of team the Reds are. They are big swingers, which clearly leads to high strikeout totals - but it also leads to a great deal of runs scored. Also when an offense is leading a league in runs, it can't be blamed for losing. The terrible pitching is the culprit, not the k totals.
