    Barrett flies out. 3 outs.

    Reds win 8-2.

You would think, with all of the intelligence accumulated over the course of human history, that every time a team goes through a losing streak, esp. in baseball, it can appear that the team is playing lackadaisically. However, it is most often due to the team all stinking at exactly the same time, as is the current case with the Cubs.

The amazing thing is that FO types, making hundreds of thousands of dollars, actually believe that it is lack of effort and not lack of talent. Boy this sounds familiar, just like there was another team that I'm familiar with who had the media types talk about "underachieving" in a sense of not reaching potential. Why can't they figure out its lack of talent and they are witnessing the cruel nature of the long season of things evening out to the talent of the players they have on the field.

Yet, it is likely the Cubs will continue to field a similar team, merely changing faces rather than realizing that the players that are attractive to them do not make up an excellent professional baseball team?
Great post. You'd especially think a former player who was known for being a streak hitter wouldn't parrot that nonsense.

I know Wood has a hefty contract, not sure of the money, but the Cubs might be open to dealing him these days. Now would be a really good time to start talking Wood or Zambrano with a team that really needs to retool, and like us, are going to have to take an excess to turn in some solid offensive performers. Just thinking out loud, so don't beat up on me too hard for the thought, and even with Wood's injury history, he might be heading toward a time in his career when the arm injuries stay away.

    Off-day tomorrow...you never know

Will Griffey pass the time in Chi-town, or Milwaukee?

    (not a tough call, there)

If anything, he appears heading towards a time when injuries are commonplace.

Yea, cancel Wood just because he's due $11M, unrealistic unless the Cubs wanted to eat a part of it. The most likely to move for them has always been Zambrano, IMO. He's got that attitude problem label, which I could care less about because his attitude is all on the field competitiveness, not the off field whining like the Reds players seem to like engaging in.

It would take some cash, but probably, except he's only signed through 2006, with a mutual option for 2007. We know they like WMP now, though.
