Hopefully Claussen is in dead arm mode. His last two outings have been poor.

of note is the Cal League is a major hitters league. Those numbers translate prettty well.

Hmm... San Jose seems to be a pitcher's park. I dunno. As far as I know, it's only High Desert (Milwaukee) and Lancaster (Arizona) that are the launching pads. BA has the league factor at 1160 for 2003, which would make it a hitter's league for sure. So maybe it's like Portland in the PCL- a pitcher's park in a hitter's league.

How would you like your team to be nicknamed the Nuts?

    Top of the 6th:

Hopper with a scrappy IF hit up the middle.

Menechino; 1st pitch flyout to CF, 1 out.

Rosales gets jammed, 5-4 fielders choice. 2 outs.

Cruz pops out to the SS in shallow left, 3 outs. 6-3 Reds.

    In between:

Color guy shames George Grande by saying "the A-word," ! :

    Bottom of the 6th:

    Hafner K's, 1 out.

Martinez flies out to LCF, 2 outs.

Perez is 2-2 so far. Dickerson makes a nice over the shoulder catch near the track in CF to retire him, 3 outs. 6-3 Reds.

Brian Buchanan doubles, his tenth of the spring. He's pinch-run for by AA OF Rick Asadoorian, an ex-Red Sox #1 pick and Dan O' Brien minor-league Rule 5 claimee. Many tools, many strikeouts for Rick.

If they don't bring Buchanan north, then I'm not sure why he was ever in camp to begin with.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    In between:

The announcers attempt to sing along with Johnny Cash. Scary.

    Top of the 7th:

Matt Miller now pitching. I think Kelly Shoppach is now catching.

Dickerson grounds out to 2B on the second pitch, 1 out.

Valentine flies out to LF, 2 outs.

Buchanan is 0-3 so far. Miller throws a pitch about 6 feet outside. Buchanan fouls a ball off of his ankle. He then doubles down the LF line past a diving Boone. Somebody (Aszedorian or something?) PRs.

Abad - full count single up the middle, scoring the PR.

Bannon - Announcers inform us that Chris Chambliss was a "country hitter," whatever that means. Bannon swings through the 2-2 pitch for a K. 3 outs. 7-3 Reds.

Actually he wasn't. He's been in minor league camp all spring.

    Bottom of the 7th:

David Weathers in to pitch and Ross in to catch. Jesse Guitierrez is playing 1st.

Weathers strikes Belliard out through the use of his aura of vettiness, 1 out.

    Boone - singles into LF.

Blake - flies out to straightaway CF, 2 outs.

Sizemore grounds out 6-4 to end the inning. 7-3 Reds.

When's the last time the REDS won 21 games in the spring?
