Thanks for the update, Buckeye33. Let's see: Wagner's still awful, Travis Chick only pitched four innings despite an otherwise not awful line (pitch count-related?), Sarasota's young hitters still look good and Carlos Fisher finally gave up some runs....ah, he did about as well as could be expected on getting the Hershiser scoreless inning streak.

No doubt. He seems to be such a headcase and such has been said about him by scouts for some time now. Certainly seems to have the talent but who knows if he'll ever turn it on. The amazing thing is not all that long ago he would have been one the Reds top five commodities over all, coming off that 1.66 ERA in the half-season after his draft. Now I am not sure they'd get ANYTHING out of him. Anything substantial at least. Sad story.

Makes you wonder what happened. I know of the "rush" theory, but he absolutely fooled people when he first came up and his sinker sunk. Cordero got "rushed" up to and hasn't behaved like Wagner.

I wonder if his "mechanical" problems didn't get the best of him and he isn't suffering from a "hidden" injury.

The ballyhoo'd 2003 draft, which I thought was overrated, really has blown up in the Reds face. A for the most part, washout. Wagner,Pauly,Ronda,Lewis,Cornell,Gardner.......Eve n the deadpan 2002 draft is fairing better than that turd.

Yeah, Cordero, Street and others haven't had the same problems. We'll check how the last crop of quick to the majors college relievers do with Devine and Hansen. But I am not too quick to blame the rush job theory for Wagner either. I am not sure how much had to do with Don Gullett because lots of folks believe that as well. The injury idea is quite plausible, especially here.

Yes, 2003's draft was terrible, Wagner had nice stuff and pedigree it seemed but still seemed such a waste to spend the 14th or 15th pick on him. Seems I remember Chad Billingsley and Jeff Francis there among others who have turned out quite well. Gardner and Pauly certainly could have helped the class look better. Cornell was the guy from Ohio University who was really hyped and was hurt and never threw one pitch for the Reds, right? Wasn't Chris Dickerson in the 2003? If so, he's by far the top guy from the class now. Bet no one thought that'd be the case in three years back in 2003.
