If the goal is short-term, I could see him bringing a bullpen arm from a team with a surplus (though those are few and far-between), but I don't think he will bring a high-level pitching prospect, so maybe Krivsky is just waiting to see how the first half plays out.
Every one of the 3 catchers brings something to the team, I personally just think the roster construction could be better with an extra OF instead; though we consider Freel an OF primarily now. I guess I am just biased against the 3 catcher concept, especially since only Valentin has a second position--though Bob boone thought LaRue could play the outfield:

Boognish...I agree. LaRue would have to be packaged with a few youngsters to bring a solid middle-reliefe type to town. No way he brings a #1 or #2 starter.
