    Greatest Trade with Padres

Had to be Gene Locklear, or even Angel Bravo, or possibly even Mark Kroon, or Buddy Carlisle all epic transactions

I was thinking Ed Sprague Sr., but baseball-reference.com is down and I wanted to double check to see if I am wrong/right.

Greg Vaughn, although here a short time, was one of the main reasons we did what we did in 1999.

For a while during the early 70's it seemed as if the Reds would trade for any Padres pitcher who could beat them; the only one they could not succeed in trading for was Randy Jones.

I especially enjoyed watching Norman, the little lefty, pitch.

For awhile during the 2000's it seemed as if the REDS would trade for any Pirates LH pitcher who could beat them; the only one they could not succeed in trading for was Oliver Perez (thank goodness it seems).

    Re: Greatest Trade with Padres

Didn't we do Bip Roberts for Randy Myers (Am I remembering that right?)

Bip was a very good player for a few years.

I was trying to remember who we got when we traded Rassmussan to the Padres. It might not have been anyone good, but I was trying to remember.

Also, don't forget about Carlemo Martinez (He might've been FA, I can't recall)
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

    Dennis Rasmussen:

June 8, 1988: Traded by the Cincinnati Reds to the San Diego Padres for Candy Sierra.
I do not remember Candy Sierra!

I really liked Bip Roberts, though; he was a sparkplug, a "scrappy!" player who could probably play for JN. His best year was 1992, when he was an all-star for the Reds; unfortunately for Bip, he never rose to those heights again.

Bip indeed came to the Reds in exchange for Randy Myers and a PTBNL:

December 8, 1991: Traded by the San Diego Padres with a player to be named later to the Cincinnati Reds for Randy Myers. The San Diego Padres sent Craig Pueschner (minors) (December 9, 1991) to the Cincinnati Reds to complete the trade.

It wasn't just the '70's. In the '80's we did the same thing with Bob Shirley and Bob Owchinko. My favorite Padres trade was acquiring Norman, but Randy Myers for Bip Roberts was a nice trade as well.

I think Candy was a bad relief pitcher.. Not positive though.
