The myopia on this board is simply borderline asinine.

Yeah, let's give one season, that started in March for crying out loud, who has brought in everybody and their uncle to try to fix something, though his "worst" trade are guys who get sent basically home to Mommy so they can OPS under .800 in a huge ball park.

Thank goodness we don't run baseball clubs around here. We'd get laughed off the planet and likened to Trader Frank Lane. One man's Harvey Kuenn is another man's treasure.

I am all for getting guys on the pitching staff who are bat missers. Problem is, no one in the bullpen fits that description. I am all in favor of going out and getting a few guys like that but teams who have guys like that are not going to want to give them up and if they do, they are going to want a lot in return and then you have the situation where you had to give up two regulars and a guy who was supposed to be a bat misser for two guys who have not done the job. I would love to get that guy from DET who throws over 100 mph but I think they are not going to want to get rid of him for anyone less than Homer Bailey and Homer alone may not be enough. Maybe you call Homer up and have him be the guy you bring in to get that key strikeout. But even if that works out, he is only one pitcher and you still have a bullpen full of guys who do not strike people out. Hopefully that is something that Wayne will address during the off season but I have a feeling the cast of characters down there will not change much from this year.

My, my, who's that team currently nestled in 2nd place in the Central?

    It's the Reds.

Well, pat yourself on the back, since you got one rung higher so far.

After what Milwaukee and Houston did and the hype surrounding Chicago, I thought no higher than fifth.

This has been an enjoyable yet maddining summer all in one - it's like that on-again off-again summer fling with the same girl who can't make up her mind.

Anyone feeling empty? I can't put a finger why this team is consistantly good for a period, then consistantly bad for a period.. Unfortunatly when they are good they hardly distance them selves from compitition and then when we are bad we see our playoff hopes disolve

Anybody for a 21-8 September? That seems to be the way it goes around here.

Throw April out the window and we're very sub-.500

Not a good team at all. Have the trades really helped or would we be EVEN WORSE without making those moves?

I picked this team to win 69 games, thanks to Krivsky that wont be the case. The only bad moves he has made were the Kearns/Lopez trade and the extension of Jerry Narron's contract and I am far more upset and concerned with the second one. This year was so much better than any realistic fan could have expected. Who cares if a down year in the NL helped it. Without Krivsky this team never gets Phillips, Arroyo, Ross, Hatteberg. Without those four this team would be much closer to the Pirates than the Cards.

Very true. The Reds were 17-8 in April and have been 51-61 thereafter.

Since the "trade," the Reds have gone 23-25.

Yes, the relief pitching is somewhat better, but no more effective.

We gave up offense for mediocre relief pitching. The pitching was not bad on the West Coast run, but the offense was horrible. We scored less than 3 runs in 5 of the ten games. We averaged 3.5 runs per game.

In absence of lights-out pitching, you need offense. Wayne did not acquire any lights out pitching.

I hear ya on the Narron thing. Think Kriv is second-guessing that extension by now?

The offense is simply awful right now.
