Cards came out battling after that huge homer by "Prince Albert".

If damn Linebrink hadn't blown that lead last night then the Astros would possibly be on the verge of overtaking the Cardinals tonight.

Well, that homer essentially sealed, at worst, a one-game playoff for the Central crown. The Stros are still in it. The Reds aren't.

Every time I hear George drop the "Prince Albert" on me, I can't help but think about the alternative meaning for the phrase.

I'll just say that it involves a man piercing something in his nether-regions....

The Cards are going to be a half game up with 3 to play and they have lost 7 of 8.

How do they have a 1 game playoff "sealed"?

They only have to win one game this weekend. They will.

Oops. Never mind. I miscounted. My bad, 44. Alright, so it doesn't mean as much as I thought.

Also mentioned that Towers may be out as general manager of the Padres.

Sandy Alderson's running the show now in San Diego, and he's probably one of the most brilliant baseball men that's worked in the game in the last 20 years. He just hired Paul DePodesta a few months ago, and it wouldn't surprise me if Alderson replaces Towers with DePodesta.

Yeah but the most important part of your statement is that the Reds are done, which I agree with.

I honestly could see us catch the Cardinals, but we aren't going to make up 2games in 3 days on the Astros.

Oh well, lets try to get a .500 season. It's a start.

    2.5 with 3 to play.....

Out of the realm of possiblilty? Technically, no.

    Likely? Hardly...too many factors

    However, it's at least interesting!

What gets under my skin is that I will go back and disect the season schedule and think of about 10 games will really should have won. Not just "well if we had a hit there," but really had no business losing.

And you will also find about 10 games we really had no business winning. Any game that we won with Michalek on the hill comes to mind.

A good friend of mine, a Philles fan, always makes a list of the top ten moments where it all went wrong for the Phillies. Very detailed, very maudlin.

He does this every single season.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.
