Ask the Mets, the NL's best offense, what they think of the guy who spanked them twice in 5 days' time. It's rare that an offense gets shut down in almost exactly the same manner after having seen the guy just days before.
Results matter in the playoffs. It's a different beast from the regular season. DIPS only matters vis the regular season.

The defense deserves just as much credit as the pitchers do. The Mets popped eight homers in the NLCS and drew 24 walks, good totals for a seven-game series. When they put the ball in play, however, they made outs. They hit a lowly .242 on balls in play, more than 50 points below their regular-season mark. The Cardinals, not a strikeout staff, managed to pitch to contact (just 36 strikeouts in seven games) without getting singled and doubled to death. They share some credit for that figure, but when you look at why the Mets didn’t put runs on the board, that .242 mark (of if you prefer, a DER of about .758), was the key to the series.

DIPS ERA is an indication of what to expect from a pitcher in the future. The fact that Suppan's results have been better than his actual performance is an indication that Suppan is more likely to get less results in the future, unless he, in fact, starts to pitch better.
The guy has been brilliant for 3 straight months. And how can you effectively gauge DIPS ERA for 2 or 3 starts? That is, is that really an altogether effective gauge of the future or small sample goofiness? A lot of the walks Suppan's issued have been deliberate and timely, not the results of the inability to throw strikes.

He has a DIPS ERA of 4.68 this year.
He's been far from brilliant.
He hasn't even been average.
But he has improved as the season has gone on.
Very true. But Kenny Rogers also turned in two very good gems also.
I say the Tigers in 5 games. They have home field advantage (46-35), the Tiger's SP will shut them down.
The Cards are not facing SD or the Mets now; but a far superior team. And it's gonna show.
