Yeah,Wainwright was nasty in the 9th.

Good game. Sets up a classic rematch of the 1968 World Series.

Cliff Floyd didn't exactly have a great AB either. Rather lackluster.

Nor did David Wright, Preston Wilson, or Juan Encarnacion.

Rolen looked bad early but somehow dialed it up a notch his last 2 ABs.

    Stupid Cardinals

As much as they deserve some love for doing what everybody said the couldn't, I can't be the one to do it.

I think I read that in a Sporting News a few years ago about how a guy on a medical overseas trip ran into people wearing Bills' Super Bowl Champion t-shirts.
I don't think MLB allows that, not at the company where my friend works anyway, which supplies all the shirts for the Eastern seaboard. I remember this because I said that we should send them off to Africa and teach them to use e-bay and we could probably fix AIDS down there. He was absolute that none of the t-shirts ever got out.

Maybe my friend is just a stick in the mud But this is one of his biggest clients, so I can understand from a work standpoint.

    Excellent point.

The Braves and Cardinals have been the NL gold standard and neither of those franchises charge nearly as hard as the Yanks and Sox. No one in the NL these days forces you to aspire to greatness.

The Cards' offense--now healthy--is pretty much every bit the offense of the Tigers. Maybe better.

The only place the Tigers have an edge over the Cardinals is in starting depth. Now, admittedly, that's a good place to be stacked. Still, I'd take my chances with Suppan against any offense in the known universe right now; Suppan means the Cards WILL win at least two games in the Series. If Carpenter can step up once and Weaver as well, it should be very, very interesting.

I'll say Cards in 7--fulfilling my Cards' 1975 prediction. This is their year to seal the deal. If there's a team of destiny this season it's the Cardinals. Every last little thing is working right for them right now.

For the record, I don't think I've seen a pitching performance like Suppan's since Smoltz' brilliant outing in Game 7 of the 91 Series. Hostile environment, tough offense--totally and completely unfazed. If I'm the Cards I'm trying to find a way to squeeze three starts out of him if possible. He was utterly unhittable last night.

Seriously - if they go .500 on that end of the season West Coast trip - it could be the Reds & Tigers in the World Series.

    Way to fold up guys.
What's worse is the way they played the Cubs and Pirates. That's what really kept them out of the playoffs.

FCB talking up Suppan like he's actually a good pitcher makes me laugh.

Especially when he's scheduled to make 1 start.

For the record, Suppan has a DIPS ERA in the playoffs of 3.72.

He's been very lucky and has recored only 9 K's with 9 walks. Only his abilty to keep it in the park has allowed him to slightly over achieve during the playoffs,
