    Is it even close.

Phillips is avery good fielder, Lopez is very poor.

Phillips is much cheaper, and under our control for much longer.

Phillips is today, probably as good a hitter as Lopez, and has far more potential.

Phillips has quite a bit more trade value than Lopez. We saw what Lopez had last summer in terms of trade value.

If Lopez and Kearns were suddenly back on our team, I don't think there would be a spot in our starting lineup for them. It wasn't trading them that was so bad. It was the return. We traded the right players.
Like any trade, the results will be shown with certainty in 5 years. However, it is interesting to note...the position among many anti-Tradists has taken a dramatic turn from "Kearns and Lopez are going to be great and I can't believe we dumped them" to "its about the return". Anyone who reads this site has seen this happen, on an overall level of course....I am sure some questioned the return originally, but many were pimping Kearns and Lopez as future stars. What a telling comment though...and you are correct...they probably wouldn't even crack the starting lineup this year.

In this case the Reds have been fortunate, not lucky.
Being lucky is when the GM's manager and his brother have a lifelong relationship with Hamilton, but not knowing about it.

I'd say it was at least half luck which has produced the performance to date. The question is, would Hamilton have been as successful in Chicago?
    Dubito Ergo Cogito Ergo Sum.
