Wow. That is extremely close to the best lineup the Reds could put out there. Scary, almost.

I actually don't mind that lineup. Am I ill?

Somewhere along the line, Phillips slipped into the cleanup spot and some of us accepted it.

Sorry, I can't. I think cleanup and visions of Gehrig, Snider, Perez, Stargell, etc..enter my mind.

    Phillips...no.

Yeah, I guess I've forced myself to accept BP hitting 4th. I don't like it either but Narron isn't going to change anytime soon. He's always going to feel the need to split up Junior and Dunn. Hopefully EE starts raking and gets put back in the 4 slot soon enough.

    No, but rather optimistic.

Put Hamilton in for Freel. Move Phillips to the second slot. Make Derrick Lee the cleanup hitter/first baseman. A starting pitcher below 4.00.

    Then we're talking.

A RH hitter like Lee who was tall and could pick it at 1B would really help this team.
School's out. What did you expect?

Well, I meant given the current personnel, I don't mind it so much. Although I would like to see Phillips moved out of the cleanup spot at some point.

Only Mike Stanton has a higher ERA for the month on the Reds staff.

Yet they still use him in critical situations...

Trade Dunn and Hat I would think you have a better chance for an optimal lineup.

Ah, but there's a flaw with mixing Jerry Narron and Lou Gehrig together in a Yankees lineup. Babe Ruth batted 3rd, which means if Jerry Narron was managing those Yankees teams Lou Gehrig would have been batting 5th rather than 4th. Narron can't have those lefties Ruth and Gehrig batting back to back now. In Jerry Narron's world, Tony Lazzeri or Bob Meusel would have been batting 4th rather than Lou Gehrig.

    Two differences perhaps?

In the past era, you didn't have the liklihood of a LOOGY coming in, as the starter generally went quite a long time.

Ruth and Gehrig presumably hit lefties well. Both Griffey and Dunn have had troubles with them (at times) over the last few years.

I like A RH hitter between them too, so I put Dunn 2nd, and Griffey 4th.
