BTW, CW said yesterday that Pete really likes Gonzo in the 2 hole versus RHPs.

That's the way, uh huh, uh huh ...

Well, he does have an OPS of .856 vs RHP this year. The OBP is only .333 though.

Thats enough right there to end the managerial interview process this winter. "Thanks for your hard work Pete, but we wanna go in another direction"

which suggests 6 or 7 hole.

The problem the Reds have is none of the RH hitters are good OBP guys and we know Pete(and Jerry) loves the L-R-L-R stuff.

Sad part is a Hamilton, Votto, Jr, Dunn quartet to start the lineup would scare the hell out of any RHP. Maybe if the Reds got early leads those late inning ABs wouldn't mean as much.

batting him 8th is not a real good way to kick off his career.

I'm sure it's Pete's way of breaking him in easy.

Nothing wrong in breaking a guy in slow. Batting 8th should take off some pressure.

Yeah, but Tom is such a force at the plate, he is gauranteed to see strikes.

True. Batting him 2nd would get him better pitches to hit though.

Wille hasn't heard, Conine is a cleanup hitter.

That lineup is still likely to smoke Mr. Shearn.

Somewhat unrelated, but I thought I'd see where some other former Reds batted in their first games. I got as far as Perez and Bench, both of whom batted 4th or 5th, but I noticed something in Bench's first game which, were it to happen now, would have given half of Redszone strokes - in the bottom of the 9th with no one out and Tommy Helms on first base, Chico Ruiz (bench me or trade me) pinch hit for Johnny. Oh my, how we would have howled. JB, BTW, went 0-3 with 2 K's. Whatta bum.
