Re: 9/5/07 - Reds vs Mets Game Thread

Here are some former notable Reds and where they batted in their first MLB start per Retrosheet:

    Bench 7th
    Perez 5th
    Rose 2nd
    E. Davis 2nd
    Larkin 1st

Looks like it's all over the lineup and it really doesn't matter especially when your team is hopelessly out of it in September.

The fact the team is hopelessly out of it would be a good reason to bat Votto higher in the order. It would give him a better chance at seeing good pitches.

From retrosheet, Bench batted 7th in 1967, and only 7th from his debut on 8/28 to the end of the season.

That makes HRs in consecutive ABs for BP (he hit one last night in the 9th).

I didn't see it since the game's not televised here, but apparently Joey Votto makes his first big play as a Red ... defensively ... by throwing out Carlos Beltran at third base after receiving a putout from Gonzalez.

Beltran was running from first on a Hit and Run, Conine grounded to short and Beltran decided to try for third. Votto gunned him out with a nice throw.
