Dolly left Porters show and was sued by him, he felt that he had brought her to the forefront. In the ensuing battle for her freedom Dolly wrote "I will always Love You" which became a big hit for Whitney Houston before she discovered the rock.It is also of interest as Dolly Parton was the girl singer with the show form 1967 to 1974.
I never saw Porter Wagoner sing or do whatever he did. I understand he was influential years ago. When I heard he had died all I could think about was Gary Burbank's Gilbert Gnarley bit, where he went to the Porter Wagoner show, and got to go on stage. He had a disposable camera with him that had pictures of he and Porter. Gilbert called Kodak to ask where his pictures were because he had thrown the camera away and the pictures were never sent to him. He sobbed greatly. I was in stitches.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.
