Dusty hasn't said as much but there's some undercurrent that seems to suggest it's not out of the question.
School's out. What did you expect?

I'm not as high on Phillips as most, but I agree with Pedro...

of course it's debateable. but that's the point of this board I suppose. In fact, I'll make it a thread in ORG to keep the gamethread from going off topic.

    Sure.
I didn't mean all 3 were better than the other 3. Just that I'd prefer the 2nd pair of guys to the first pair of guys. If I had to pick 3 for 2008, I'd take Dunn, Junior, and EE.

    Dunn > Junior
    EE > BP
    Votto > Patterson

Judging by OPS, I'd put significant cash on all 3 of those.

I like Phillips as a player and I'm glad he's a Red, but he is seriously overrated at the dish at this point. He absolutely destroyed lefties last year, in part due to an unlikely to be sustained BABIP. The lack of discussion about his mediocrity versus righties (.262/.310/.428) is beyond me. Stolen bases are nice, but even at an 80% success rate, that nets out to maybe 2 runs considering that 70% is a 0 run net. But those few extra runs on the bases are more than negated by the double plays he hit in to (3rd most in MLB). Part of his counting number success was due simply opportunity. Give EE another 150 plate appearances and let's compare them again.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

No doubt. I'm sure quite a few players would like to see ST shortened somewhat.
