    Dragons Roster

    http://daytondragons.com/pressbox/pressrelease/index.html?article_id=495

Edit: Scott Carrol will start the Opening Game for the Dragons!

Looks as if what the Dragons broadcaster told me a couple weeks ago when I met him that Mesoraco will start in extended spring training then probably go to the GCL. Lotzkar too, although he thought there was a shot Lotzkar could go to Dayton.

That sucks Mesoraco's going back to the GCL. He's gonna be 20 this year isn't he?

Yeah he is. I doubt he starts in the GCL. Billings is a lot more likely.

Good to see Lotzkar not on the Dayton roster. He's a puppy and in no way needs to be pushed to full season ball at age 18.

Looks like Mesoraco's going to get a chance to put up some numbers in Billings. There's really nothing wrong with a 20-year-old catcher playing rookie ball. That said, one worry that's going to haunt Mesoraco until he hits in pro ball will be that he made his heady run up the draft boards because he was an older, physically mature kid dominating poor competition in central PA. He'll never have that kind of advantage again.

If Mesoraco doesn't tear it up in rookie ball over the next couple of months, I'd start to get very concerned.

    Re: Dragons Roster

I asked the broadcaster about this today and he said the Reds really liked what they saw of those players in spring training but that they were ticketed for Billings. Mesoraco also had a minor injury issue in spring training that held him back a little. But Mesoraco hit .219 in the GCL last year against 18 and 19 year olds and it would be a lot to expect him to jump into a full season league off of that season. I would think that the best case for Mesoraco would be to go to extended, absolutely tear it up for a couple of months in the games they play (which are not official games but are still played as live games against other teams' extended spring players), he might convince some people that he is worthy of going to Dayton before the Pioneer League season starts. More likely, he starts in Billings when they start in June.
