    Top Draft Picks, College Tournament

    College Baseball Bracket

    Alvarez/Vanderbilt
    Matusz/San Diego
    Crow/Missouri
    Smoak/South Carolina
    Posey/Florida State
    Beckham/Georgia
    Alonso/Miami (FL.)
    Hunt/Tulane

All are guys I think are on our radar, and all are in the pool. Alonso and Crow are in the same bracket and may face off, depending on when Crow pitches, as well as Hunt and Posey. Could have had a great matchup of Matusz and Scheppers, until Scheppers got hurt.

Those may be the top ones, but keep an eye on Michigans Zach Putnam. He's a Rick Ankiel clone without the "psycho".

Yep. Pure power hitter who can hammer it. Scouts debate whether he should be a pitcher or a position player because of his bat. Pure power on the mound, too, mid 90 heater. Good slider. Mechanics concerns and command issues. If he was to fall to 83 and the Reds picked him I'd do cartwheels.

Zach Putnam Lights Out Yet Again

Well, it's official. Something has clicked and Michigan opponents better beware. Zach Putnam is back and better than ever. Here are the stats from his last three starts:

    2-0; 0.37 ERA; 0.71 WHIP; 22.1 IP; 34 K's; 4 BB; 13 Hits

    Zach Putnam, Michigan
    Jr., DH, Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer
Putnam led the Wolverines to a four-game sweep over the weekend, batting .368 (7-for-19) with a double and three home runs to combine for an .895 slugging percentage. The junior also added eight RBI and six runs as Michigan maintained the top spot in the Big Ten standings with an 11-1 record. Putnam's best performance came in Game 2 of the series against Illinois when he went 3-for-5 with a double and two home runs, scoring four runs and driving in six. The Ann Arbor, Mich., native also went 3-for-5 with a homer, two runs and four RBI in a non-conference matchup against Toledo earlier in the week, driving his weekly numbers up to a .417 average, a .440 on-base percentage and a .958 slugging mark. Putnam is currently riding a seven-game hitting streak and is third in the Big Ten in slugging percentage (.725) and tied for third in RBI (14) in conference action. The utility player also picked up the win on the mound in Friday's game, driving his record to 3-0 with a 2.95 overall ERA and 47 total strikeouts. The award is Putnam's first career honor for hitting, and his second weekly accolade this season as he was named Pitcher of the Week on March 31. Putnam is the first player since Northwestern's Sloan Smith in 1993 to be named Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week in the same season.

Just two news blurbs about different aspects of his game. Darn guy is moving up the charts though and fast. I doubt he'll be there at 83.

Double posted. So I'll add this: Putnam, Riccio Torrez, Cutter Dykstra, Casey Kelley, Chris Dominguez. Man, I'd love any one of them at 83 but I don't know that any of them will be there, plus Dykstra may be a very difficult sign since he has a letter to Stanford and implied it would take a major offer to forego that.

    Absolutely!

Maybe not as good at hitting, but he was the DH of the Year in the Big-Ten this year, and he was Pitcher-of-the-Year. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like he'll get out of the 1st tier of Regionals as they got put in the same 4-team bracket as Arizona, but it won't be because Putnam doesn't pitch a great game when it's his turn.

Missouri plays today at 12 on ESPNU, I'm guessing Crow will pitch but not sure. South Carolina plays at 2, Georgia at 3, and Miami at 4.

What's everyone's opinion on Dominguez? With my biased point of view, he has been an absolute stud for Louisville. The word is that he might stay in school another year but is he a legit early pick if he comes out?

Crow just lost his no-hitter with two outs in the 4th inning on a serious jam job that fell in between the pitchers mound and second base for an infield single.

Crow just pulled out a nasty curveball to strikeout the final batter of the 4th inning. He's got nasty stuff. I have no problem whatsoever if the Reds draft him at No. 7.

Lance Lynn is looking pretty good for Ole Miss. He reminds me a bit of Aaron Harang with his size and stuff.

Are you watching OBM? Do his mechanics look as bad as what's been said?

That pitch would have destroyed a wood bat.
