Phillips is hit by a pitch and then Votto singles to score Patterson and give the Reds their first lead of the afternoon! Encarnacion follows with a sac-fly to make it 8-6 before Bruce ends the inning with a pop-up.

8-6 Reds as we head to the ninth.

Good thing that Phillips was hit (but not badly) beacuse his Rolando Roomes batting like style/ways are really tiring.

Man, was Castillo lucky that Chavez' throw to the plate was high, or else he's tagged out. Good thing on top of that that Hansen was watching the ball and so he slapped his glove down on the plate without seeing where Wilkin's hand was.

Now Francisco Cordero comes on for the ninth. Pinch-hitter Nyjer Morgan, the pitcher's spot, and Cruz.

Cordero whiffs Morgan swinging, and Adam LaRoche comes up to pinch-hit.

Adam grounds to Votto on a 2-2 changeup. Two down.

Freddy Sanchez in to pinch-hit for the hapless Luis Cruz.

Cordero walks the free-swinging Sanchez on four straight pitches, bringing up the tying run in Raul Chavez.

2 run lead and you walk Sanchez on 4 pitches?

Slow roller to Phillips who barehands the ball and throws it away. Tough play but he usually makes that play.

On comes a fourth-straight pinch-hitter, Ryan Doumit. He gets an infield hit to second, with the lead runner moving up after a throwing error for Brandon Phillips.

Bixler pinch-running for Doumit. Up comes Brandon Moss.

Slider, called strike. Fastball's low and outside. Change is high and outside. Waves at a slider, 2-2! 98-mph fastball stays down, running it full. Moss hits it hard... but Votto is there to record the out and wrap this one up!

Sure, it's the Pirates- and their lineup today was just brutal- but the Reds showed some of them still care in a comeback 8-6 victory. Cincinnati salvages one in this home series.

Why is Brandon smiling? Quit try to style for points.....that was Javier Valentin's brother running to 1st.

And what was Brantley droning on about the runner going from 1st to 3rd for?? It's not the tying run.

I know what the rules say, but Ramirez deserved the win today a heck of a lot more than Masset.
