Bottom of 2- Encarnacion, Bruce, Hanigan.

EdE gets ahead 3-0, takes a strike, fouls one off, takes strike three. Six 88-mph fastballs. Brilliant.

Bruce falls behind 1-2 after hacking at the first pitch (which was a strike at least), takes ball two, then hammers his 15th home run of the year to right. Reds on the board, trailing 5-1.

Hanigan takes a strike, then three balls. He flies out to right, two outs.

Wilkin Castillo takes ball one, then swings at a strike and flies out to center.

    5-1 Pirates after 2.

    Top of 3.

Fogg strikes out Michaels swinging on six pitches, finishing with a deadly slider.

Andy LaRoche goes hacking at a fastball and grounds to short.

    Pearce does the same.

    5-1 Pirates after 2.5.

Bottom of 3. No Patterson and no Bako, so the Reds' lineup doesn't feel as terrible on the back end. Of course, we don't know if Castillo can hit much yet (early indications are that he won't, but he can't be worse than Bako).

    Fogg-Dickerson-Keppinger.

Fogg spanks a double to right-center! See, he was just lulling the Pirates into complacence with all that crappy pitching.

Fogg injured his leg while tagging up. It appears he is done for the day.

His pitching should have determined that...

Dickerson takes a low fastball, then an errant curveball goes to the backstop for a wild pitch, moving Fogg to third. 2-0. Two more wide ones and it's a walk. Corners, none out.

Keppinger watches a strike, then a ball., then another ball. Still almost entirely fastballs from Gorzelanny. Foul evens the count at 2-2. He then lifts a sacrifice fly to score Fogg. 5-2 Pirates.

Phillips takes a fastball wide, then fouls one off as Gorzelanny makes several pickoff attempts to first. He swings through a high fastball, then goes after another one high and inside and flares it into right for a base hit. First and second, one out.

Votto is the tying run. He's hit .273-6-31-.781 against lefties this year, only about 50 points worse than his overall OPS of .823. He takes a pair of high-and-inside breaking balls, then swings through three fastballs in the strike zone. Ouch. Two outs.

Encarnacion walks on five pitches to load the bases for Bruce.

Jay takes a high curve, then a fastball on the corner. Fastball's high and inside. Gorzelanny is now regularly up to 91 on the gun. Foul evens the count at 2. Strike three swinging!

    5-2 Pirates after 3.

I bet Jay would like to have that 2-2 pitch back. That was a fastball right in his wheelhouse.

    Ramirez, now in for Fogg.

It's a shame it takes an injury to a guy who has no future with this club, who's been awful all season, for the right decision to be made.
