I still disagree with the decision to bring Cueto back this season. I don't see where there's anything to gain by bringing him back and risking injury. Between winter ball, spring training, and the regular season he's already thrown plenty of innings.

Agree absolutely, OBM, no way Cueto should be out there.

Cueto developing a slider ...reminds me of Soto doing the same during late 1984 so he could have it for 1985. He began hanging the sliders and went through a long stretch without winning a game that year. Then he started to develop his arm problems. Minimize the slider......throw fastballs an changeups and get him out at 80-90 pitches.

Cueto has had his slider for years now. I have no idea why Chris keeps saying he just learned that pitch this season.

If that's the case.....is it his 3rd pitch and has he only recently started to use it more beacuse he thought the hitters had figured out his other stuff?

Cueto allows a two out double to Lee but K's Ramirez to end the top of the first.

No. His slider has always been his best pitch. I believe Soto taught him a better changeup a couple years ago and then started working with him on a cutter a while back.

Cueto threw 16 pitches in the first inning - 14 were fastballs. I just don't see the reasoning in bringing him back so he can pump fastball after fastball and get hit. He's got a plus fastball but any major leaguer can hit a fastball, especially when they know it's coming.

A one out single by Kepp but he's erased on a Phillips double play.

GIDP by our 3 hitter who's got a less than .700 OPS against righties. That's lineup construction in the best tradition of Dusty Baker.

    Top 2

    -Soto grounds out
    -Hoffpauir K's
    -DeRosa pops out

13 pitches that inning, 8 fastballs. Mixed it up more that inning.

I like Chris but he should not give out bad info like that.....hope he uses his changeup more and minimizes his sliders. I cannot believe they would let him go out and pitch if he was not completely healthy and able to handle this.
