Harang seems to have much better control today. He is painting the corners and is through 6 innings on only 81 pitches.

Just an observation. I hate the Cubs, but they have this fan following because the team continues to improve itself. We all laughed when they spent all that money two years ago, and no they haven't won anything yet, but I imagine it's a lot more fun to be a Cubs fan than a Reds fan these days. They have (hopefully) little hope, but it's a helluva lot more hope than we have. In the meantime, our team continued to say that we were ready to contend when we were far from it depending on lots of second tier players.

Even so, I still hate the Cubs and especially since I have to listen to their TV guys. Terrible.

Soriano really thinks he's something with that ignorant hop he does.

By Young's third AB (around the 5th inning) I had my beer.

I would be pretty confident about making that same bet with Corey Patterson in the lineup. :

I made a similar bet last year @ Shea when Harang took on John Maine.

I bet the guy Phillips would swing at the 1st pitch 75% of the time. IIRC, he hit a 1st pitch grand slam in the 1st inning, and then I know he swung at the 1st pitch at least one more time.

Long story short, the Mets fan ended up buying 2 rounds for me and my fiancee, and I ended up buying him 2 rounds later on for something involving Jose Reyes.

And now Harang hits DeRosa on a 1-2 pitch. Two straight HBP to begin the inning. Good grief.

DeRosa gets drilled (unintentionally) but there is no more annoying player to me so I don't really mind.

Edmonds flies out but the light hitting Ronny Cedeno doubles a run in. 2-1 and the Cubs have runners on second and third with only one out.

Fontenot sac fly makes it 3-1. That should about wrap it up for the Cubs.
